Flight Adventures @ YVR?

http://www.flightadventures.ca

Anyone have any experience with this company? They're at YVR and have an A320 and 737NG sim setup, just wondering if anyones gone for an hour or two in em. I emailed the guy for some photos of their sims, but he said that he didn't have any, and pointed me at airliners.net instead. I'm headin to Vancouver for a couple days soon and thought it'd be neat to try them out if its worth the money.

Couple clips I found on youtube, one from Global, and one from "Urban Rush" documenting the place:

I so want to do this. This would be so worth it because I spend so much money upgrading my computer every few months to fly FSX. I had a chance to fly the Cathay sim's in Hong Kong last year. I used some left over asiamile points and it was quite the experience.

^I'd love to get an hour or two in a level-d sim, that'd be an awesome present haha. What one were you on?

My points included a tour of the the Cathay City flight training centre and 30 mins on the B777 sim. I did a landing and takeoff from VHHH on the sim and I must say it was quite interesting because when you're flying on FS2004/FSX it seems so easy to land but damn was it tough on the simulator.

I've read a couple posts on avsim of a few Vancouver members going out to YVR and flying on AC's A320(i think it's the A320) simulator. Not sure how one would be able to do that without hook up's at AC.

A bit off topic but did hear about Microsft getting rid of ACES? Basically the end of the Flight Sim as we know it.

If you get a chance to ever again, try out the flight sim with Cathay again. One of my former co-workers back from Fido/Microcell now works for the company that is responsible for deploying flight sims around the world, in fact, every legacy airline. He recently came back from HK last month to install their most latest and greatest flight sim.

I've been on this for my friends birthday. His dad is a pilot for Air Canada so he has access to this stuff for training and stuff.

Pretty neat experience, worth the money if you get the chance.

Yeah I heard about it, lameeeeeeeee Anyways, about this place, I might go there next month when I have some time with a friend or two, just to make the trip worthwhile.

I don't know about that place, but it could very well be super expensive. I took the AC 767 sim for a short 20 min jaunt a few years back through a friend, and I recently took TC's Citation sim (Full glass) for a few hours last fall. Luckily one was for an interview, and the other was for shits, so it didn't cost me anything. Neat experience, but you don't need anymore then 20 mins to get the "thrill".

I have some time in the full motion 767 sim (ex-CDN airlines) at YVR. The motion sensation is 100% realistic. At one point I was cruising at 10,000' at 350kts, when the instructor paused the sim - and I swear my body jerked forward like as if I was in a car that just slammed on it's brakes, even though the sim didn't actually move.

For a flightsim/aviation nut, it's a must-do experience. It can be tailored to whatever you want to do - VFR takeoffs and landings, IFR approaches, procedues & failures, etc etc.

For most people, the thrill wears off pretty quick, but if you are a real pilot wannabe, you can go through a full procedure IFR departure procedure, with a mid flight emergency, and then a full prodecure approach with additional failures - that will really test your flying skills and pack far more value into the short time frame.

Do NOT expect to be doing any extreme maneuveres like rolls or loops, as this is very hard on the equipment (excessive and abrupt motions put premature wear on the very expensive equipment)

One piece of advice - if you are taxing around, remember that you have 200 feet of aircraft behind you. Don't drag your main wheels over the grass, or else the sim will shake and rattle like an earthquake!
