Hey guys, I'm looking to get my plenum and throttle bodies powder coated, and I don't know of any decent shops in town besides Ferny's.

Any suggestions?

island powder coat in langford i hear is pretty good.

i was recommended there though i have yet to use it (though i will soon)

Yah it's sort of across the street from Lordco. Part of a mini complex that has 2 other businesses in it. Pricing is quite good. I did a gloss black powdercoat on my valve cover, and it came in at $40. I had another one be around $90, but he had to send it off to a place to get it cleaned first because it was really contaminated.

I think it's because some lower quality cast wheels can have lots of imperfections / rough patches. Getting them professionally polished before hand would eliminate almost all of those problems.

reason being; cast anything will have imperfections/gas trapped inside. and when you heat it to the 425' they outgas and weaken the heat treatment that they come with from the manufacturer.

Interesting stuff. I have a set of FD RX-7 rims (the reinforced ones) that I was planning to have coated. I might have to pose the question on the RX7 forums to see if there has been any incidents of rim damage or possible weakening as a result of powder coating.

its not uncommon for cast wheels to have issues after powdercoating, its not just the imperfections in the wheels but the alloy they're made of themselves. depending on the alloy and heat treat conditions they were manufactured with you can significantly reduce the fatigue strength of your wheels (it can essentially anneal metal). if you can find a place that does it get the wheels coated at a much lower temperature (there are powders out there that cure at 200 degrees instead of 400)
