Anyone else with wheel/tire combos find these strips aggravating as hell in the rain?? I live on the penninsula, so it's a daily thing doing the pat bay up and down, and there must be 10-15km+ of highway COVERED in all different waves of tar strip! If it's raining I can hardly keep the car straight over some patches. Not just me I'm guessing? I guess 285/30/20's are useless except in the dry.

I'm on 255/45/18s and i don't really notice anything other than bumpiness. My old car had 205/55/16s and would track all over the place on that stuff. I think the difference is camber. Old car had trailing arms and a bunch of negative camber cuz it was lowered, current car has double wishbones so it's not a problem.

If you hate tar strips don't ever plan on driving in the rest of Canada where they have cold temps, frost heaves and frozen potholes from hell. When spring hits and it melts, they take weeks to throw some tar into a sort of patch that never sticks. We get it far too easy here in most of BC. Try driving in Moncton in April or May & see what hell is.

They are awful on a motorbike. I can still remember the feeling of going through a corner heading out to sooke and feeling the front tire slide about 3 inches. Doesn't seem like much but when you are leaning into a corning going 60-65kph its not a fun feeling.

My old car was horrendously scary in the rain where the pat bay makes that huge bank to the left, then turns into blanshard (right by the esso gas station). The back end used to slide everywhere on those tar strips.

They're much much worse on a bike than in a car, so quit your bitching :p They do seem pretty overzealous with those things, but you gotta remember thats what stops water from getting in the cracks, feezing, expanding and making giant potholes everywhere

I'll give them credit, they are trying to fix that with those super awesome new sticker type lines that they used on the malahat (that are all washing/peeling off)

Camber seems to have a fair bit to do with it. My TL was fine over those strips, until I put in the Acura A-Spec suspension kit, which pushes the camber to right near maximum allowable spec. Now, the back end has started following the tar patches...

I was just gonna say, to everyone complaining about it in a car, try it on a bike. My least favorite thing about riding, hands down.

Yeah its pretty horrible on a bike, especially in the summer when the suns on them all day.

Yeah, sorry about that, my fronts are P275/40/17s. That makes it a little better... :p

I dunno about that. It sure felt like it was the rear end squirming around when it happened to me. That's where I had the most camber too.

If we're talking about the same thing (tramlining) then the tires are pulled in the direction of the tar strip. I don't think your rear tires will be pulled unless you have a 4wd vehicle with rear steering (ie. old Prelude, new TL) :)

But I suppose it's possible that your rear tires could squirm or slide on the tar strips, although I know for me it's the fronts that cause the annoying tramlining problem.

Yeah they are the worst on my bike. Especially now that Im running DOT corsa 3's... basically a race tire that might as well be made of chewing gum they are so sticky.. Flying down willis pt road in the summer is like playing frogger..sucks so bad.. My rear end gets so squirrly and ive seen a lot of my friends come so close to biting it.. it should be fixed properly by repaving if it gets to the point where they are filling they entire road.
