holysmokes mikey q6600 and 4870x2 and you only get 37fps jeezus!! have you tried overclocking your q6600 to 3.0 id bet you'd get an extra 5-10 fps?? how does it feel to play like that does gta look good on your comp or better on a ps3/xbox?

PC games on high settings will always look better than on PS3/XBOX.. there's no comparisons!

Wait, you only have $1000 budget which excludes HDD, PSU, and one video card? (you're buying the 2nd one right?)
I highly doubt $1000 is going to be enough... I'm assuming you're going all out on the PSU and SLI video card, you're not gonna cheap out on the other stuff, right?

i have overclocked before.. but i don't really see the need for it yet for this game, so i just keep it on stock to keep it cool, haha
i'm a big fan of the grand theft auto series and i must say, i've enjoyed this one the most so far since you can do so much more compared to the older games
the graphics are better on the computer than the ps3/xbox
but like i said before.. you'll need a fairly decent computer to play it on high settings. i'm sure the game will still be just as good on medium/high too

Very basic. CPU, mobo, optical drive, case, CPU cooling. You add the videocard(s), keyboard, mouse, screen and speakers.
$854 before taxes, minus $30 MIR for the mobo.
Not a bad system, but you got to order soon or the deal from NCIX expires.
EDIT: Aircooling ought to be good enough... the Antec 900 is a very good case for it because of the huge 200mm fan above and the 2x120mm back, plus the mesh case sides.

y waste money on DDR3 on a Core 2 system when DDR2 is dirt cheap?

This game is a unnecessary bitch to good pc's.
A quad core really helps with this game.
I have a e8400 oc to 4.2 ghz
8gb of 1066mhz ram
750 sli ftw mobo
and a gtx 295
and i still dont get over 40fps... (high settings 1200x1024)
Heres a good starter rig, it would play gta4 about as good as everyone else can.

It was a bundle.... the RAM was pretty much $15-20 per stick in that bundle.
JDMprobe - he wants SLI. I don't think that motherboard supports SLI. Oh, Q8300 is cheaper than the Q6600 right now... check the sale.
I have to run the game @ 1920x1200 with Medium settings otherwise I drop under 20 fps in some circumstances ...
I recommend exceeding the following specs ...
CPU - Intel Xeon X3110 (aka E8400) @ 3.87 GHz
HSF - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro w/ Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound
RAM - 8 GB OCZ Platinum PC2-6400 @ 860 MHz 5-4-5-15
HDDs - 500 GB Seagate 7200.11 + 320 GB Seagate 7200.10
GPU - Visiontek Radeon HD 4870 512 MB (790 MHz Core/4400 MHz Memory)
PSU - ABS Tagan BZ-900 900 Watt
Case - Gigabyte Poseidon
OS - Windows Vista Business 64-bit
My friend who has a Phenom X4 9950 @ 3.1 GHz, 8 GB PC2-6400, and a Radeon HD 4850 512 MB seems to have better results, so a triple- or quad-core system would probably be a better choice.
As mentioned, the game is terribly coded for the PC, so it's an unnecessary bitch to high-end computers. I somewhat doubt you're going to be able to do a good computer w/ SLI GTX 260s and a 1000W PSU for $1000 without compromising quality.

it depends on your motherboard, but generally if it says crossfire, you won't be able to use sli
