I don't know if you guys remember playing with these when you were younger but I remember back in the day they were extremely popular.
Well I was scrolling through youtube and came across this, everything is cooler filmed with a highspeed camera , just thought I'd share ;)

I went through two waves of this stuff. First when I was in HK, then again when I was here when it got popular again.
I wasted so much money on this stuff...
But I learned a lot too...like building things, taking stuff apart, learning the concept of "standardized parts", etc.

I used to have a 20,000rpm electric motor...then I used more copper wires to make it
spin even faster. Swear to god, it could go faster than a ferrari in 1/8 mile.
but it was fucking stupid. you let it go and it never stops and comes back, you getta
run miles away to get it back :lol. Also I have way too many got ran over by cars.

we used to wind our own motor or get help from someone older to wind the motor with different gauge of wire .. and custom magnet because we can't afford to buy brand name packaged motor. those motor you buy in package is expensive , of course we were like in elementary school at that time no money to buy motor upgrade.

These were the shit back in the day.
I remember adding ball bearings for my car. Those things cost quite a fortune for a kid back in the early 90s. I remember using all the $$ I get from my parents when I would be on the honor roll in elementary school (back in the Philippines) just to buy mods for the cars. All my friends in the neighborhood had one so race days would always be Fridays nights.
I still remember some of the add ons you can do - ball bearings, sponge tires, mag wheels with 4 bearings in them, a lighter base plastic for the car + so much more.... shiiit..... :D

I used to have Magnum Saber, Cyclone Magnum TRF, Beak Spyder, few Super Astutes and Yankuro's Tamiya as well.

Still got most of mine, and i think most of them still run, just needs a respray. That was definately the start of why I like to take things apart, went from that to gundams to airsoft and now to cars. I just discovered that as you get older, the toys get more and more expensive. Now that I am so into LS1s I think i might try to make a mini version to cram into one of them.

I think my mom threw mine out while cleaning out the garage. Had good times sending them off ramps.
Those damn things, Skipped lunch for 5 days to buy a set of metallic ball bearings then another 3-4 days to buy the super "stabilizer" poles + weights. I was so happy when my Avanti won like a $50 prize in a race when I easily dumped over $100 in mods on it.

Mini4WD was extremely popular back when I was in elementary school in Japan. I bought at least 20 of those models. They were long gone though. Were they actually popular in North America as well? Those toys should come back.

Some toy shops in Hong Kong... there was a whole stack of them and I was the only person digging through it. There are also parts (like motors, those bumper wheels, and wheels) for sale. I think I paid less than CA$5.00 for the car.
Just curious, what's the MS chassis? It's pretty awesome as all the driveshafts are of equal lengths.

Chi Lok in Tuen Mun still got parts but they are phasing them out pretty quickly in HK as people who watched Let's and Go etc have now grown up and are either racing some 1:10 R/C cars or racing some 1:1 cars :P.
It'll be really difficult to find retail outlet for mini 4WDs these days as races don't happen no more and laying out tracks in HK is difficult.
