Anyone heard or is a part of that gym?
Prices and/or Information?
I've been to their site but they don't have a set price.

My dad goes to the Richmond location just to play tennis, he has to pay $40/month for the gym and then another $40/month on top just to play tennis

I know that if you don't negotiate (which you can, especially if you're a student) the monthly price is over $100.. But the downtown one is by far the nicest gym I have ever been in.

I hear all the cardio equipment has it's own HD TVs.
Some of the workouts they have are like carnival games.
It really is a luxury gym.

Just about to sign up.
Phase 2 Pricing
$59 enrollment fee +2nd person enrollment is $49
$54 a month per person
$44 for a second person
Month to Month, simple stuff, no smoke and mirrors I guess.
If you prepay for a year, you get 3 months free.
Tennis is extra $40 a month, booo.
Downtown gym is the unbelievable facility, my coworkers pay $110 a month.

^ I've checked their site and is there a bball gym in there??
misterGinster
02-09-2009, 09:38 AM
Yup, it's not full regulation size, but pretty close
Downtime gym is VERY nice, but I only really need free weights and a power rack. I like how all the plates are red as opposed to black or metal. And the bikes are cool - you can race against your buddy if you wanted to. Lots of gimmicky core machines and appratus. Theres one where you do a crunch and shoot hoops on the way up. Hard to explain.
And there are TV's everywhere, locker rooms, macines etc.. Ipod hookups
There is some global package for $300 odd a month that allows you access to all gyms around the world.

yeah they are super nice gyms. It appeals more to CEO style people who want to bike and talk on their phones. I am more into a prison yard style gym. Turn up the music on the old speakers and lets hit the rusty weights!
Question: For all you guys that go to the down town location, Has it always been dead when you go?
When ever I went, I swear the maximum amount of people was 5-10. And most were using the borrowed laptops that they have.

02-09-2009, 04:01 PM
They have laptops at the gym? that is a disgrace
Yeah, you can borrow laptops. I still remember the wifi code for the gym if they haven't changed it within the last month.

It's definately a nice gym, but i find it a bit too pricey if you're going for just the weights.
you can usually get corporate plans with the Steve Nash gym, but it works out to be similar in price to the YWCA gym a few blocks over on Hornby.

heard from a friend that works out there that the membership is pretty pricey ($50/month), but it is nice and all.
i guess it depends what you're looking for in a gym.
if you want the prison atmosphere, lifting the rusty ass weights and probably get tetanus along the way, then steve nash probably isn't for you.

just signed up not too long ago
the free weight area is a tad cramped and not much room around the racks and benches but i was willing to sacrifice that for its good selection of machines and the sauna/hottub/steamroom and well maintained shower/locker facilities
i did $99 initiation and then $588 ppd for 22 mos.
also got 3 personal training sessions tacked on and a free month for the tennis part of the club (would've preferred a deeper discount on my rate but i was done negotiating)
curious as to what everyone else is paying?
411ken
08-05-2009, 09:10 AM
^ That's fairly cheap for 588/22mos. That's like 27$ a month.... I inquired, and they had a promotion last week where when you sign up/prepay for 1 year, you get 6 months extra for free.....or if you prepay for 2 years then you will get another year free....

hey rsx, didy ou ever end up switching
im at sports central right now too and offering renewal for 199, so $16 a month
wondering if its worth it to go steve nash gym,
anyone have new prices they currently paying?
the rate they told me for student was $49 a month, prepay for a year and get 3 months, so 39 a month, plus 49 initial fee
wondering how far negotiating will take me

i'm a mbr currently at nash and have been a mbr at sportscentral before
i'd probably stick w/ sportscentral seeing as its 24 hrs, less crowded, cheaper
things to consider w/ nash is the access you will have to all the fitness world locations (i believe one of the vancouver ones is 24 hrs too)... nash has newer equipment, cleaner, well maintained.
if you like a gym that has a wide range of fitness equipment at your disposal and a pool and sauna/steamroom then nash if your ticket
but if your going to the gym just to lift heavy and get truly huge i don't see a real big difference in what nash has to offer... sportscentral has all the you'll need to get big and strong

This is what you do...if ur interested. Do the one week trial. Afterwards, they will be calling you to sign up for a monthly. Then you tell them no because you have a friend that has a corporate rate, so its not really the gym that you are shopping for. If they bite, they will offer you the corporate rate, but still would want you to pay the enrollment fee (not telling you). Then you tell em that they didn't pay the enrollement fee either.

correct, basically student/corp/law enforcement/military... w/e other category you can lump yourself into will get you the "corporate discount"
they have staff working strictly in sales so there is room to wheel and deal
do what raybot said w/ signing up for a free wk pass, and then make the sales staff earn your sign up!

ok here's an update. i went to fitness world to sign up but what they were offering me is different. they want me to lock on to either a 12 month contract or a 24 month contract. is this how memberships usually are? he said the only way for me to get out of the contract is if i have a doctor's note stating i cant workout anymore or a one way plane ticket.

any idea how to get them to offer this again?

some can correct me if i'm wrong but i believe fitness world takes your initiation fee and spreads it across 12 mos or 24 mos on top of your monthly fee... if you pay for the exhorbent initiation fee up front then you can pay month to month and discontinue at anytime

$49 a month is the corporate fee, so it should be applicable at all locations.
I was told that for a one year contract, you can pay $49 a month; $59 a month with no contract.

Sounds like both have the same rates. I live in Delta but don't mind driving out to Richmond to work out.

Steve Nash has a pool/sauna/hot tub. The weights area can get a little cramped tho.
Golds has more weight machines and the layout for weights is well spread apart. I don't think it gets as busy as steve Nash either. The one in Richmond also uses
the old grizzlies bball court, and when i checked it out the guy told me they were putting up punching bags.
Personally I'm really happy at snsc, and the chix are pretty dope too

Went to the downtown gym to sign up for the corporate rate and the sales guy said that deal was over and could not give me that price. I walked out without signing and a week late the sales guy emails me and says he can give me 8 months free for a 22 month contract which works out to $30 a month which was what the corporate rate was for my work place. Personally, I wasn't too happy with their sales tactics though their DT gym is really nice. Maybe I will hold out a little longer to get a better deal.

I'm not sure they ever intended to honour their shoe voucher promo. I joined in late June and was told it'd be mailed to my provided mailing address because they were out of stock and in early August still no shoe voucher so I contacted the guy that I negotiated my contract with. He gave me a voucher with a ref # and on it he wrote the date that I joined.
The caveat is that the voucher to get a voucher (seriously) expires within 30 days and you would've had to call in to their head office to quote your ref # to get the real voucher in the mail.
I spoke with Connie from head office and she's extremely unhelpful, basically accuses you of lieing because according to her, vouchers were never issued by mail when you signed up and no way a SNSC staff would've told you that.
I signed up through email so thankfully I have records of what was said. Not that the $100 shoe voucher was the reason why I signed up with them but it's irritating how through my experience it seems they weren't very serious about honouring the promotion.

I went for a 7 day trial pass, and they had to talk to me and everything. After I had my workout, they tried to make me commit to a membership. When I said I only wanted to try it for 7 days, they said that only applies if I sign up for a few months (they'll add 7 days on to membership).
They did have a cool ab workout machine (the medicine ball one).

^^^ Yeah, when I signed up it was going as a new promo for new members.
I signed up before they opened, so I'm currently paying only $4x a month. Pretty good deal imho. My favorite aspect of this gym is how everything is maintained and the place cleaned regularly. Not having little teens around playing with the equipment is quite a perk as well. The people usually going here are pretty serious about their workout, considering the relatively high cost of membership.

my membership at SNFW(not regular one but lvl 2 where you can go everywhere except one in downtown) comes out to be around $35/month.

I went to the richmond Steven Nash sports club. Seems nice for the general public in that its PACKED with machines. But when I had trouble finding a power rack, i wanted to walk out right there and then. Turns out it was all the way in the rear corner of the gym. 1 power rack. Weights were not rubber so I clanged like a barbarian while doing deadlifts

Went there yesterday night to check it out. I tried to ask for the rate straight forward, the receptionist tried to sit me down with one of their sales reps. I kindly refused and after some more failed attempts from their sales rep to sit me down they finally gave me a price.
$54 initiation fee, $39/month (limited to that location only)
Opens in April
I went over to Golds across the street, tried it out and I'm probably going to be joining there. In comparison Gold's rates are:
$79 initiation fee, $44/month (student price, SN-FW didn't have a student rate)
+ 1st month free

Damn, i went to the sportsclub stevenash in downtown and one of the sales rep gave me 2 options:
1. pay $150 initation fee and then $65/month
orrr
2. pay $85 initation fee and then $85/month
To me, it seems like it's different for every sales rep. I just wanted to go there for a free day pass, but she wouldn't shutup about trying to get me to join. They also called me every other day to come in the 7day pass.
