now i get a collections letter from Wiggins Adjustment LTD.
now they claim i owe DP $99.16 and the infractions date of occurence was August 10, 1924.

i'm always tempted to ignore them but I dont want something to minor to get me when I least expect it... my honest opnion is just pay it off... call them and give them some bullshit story then they will simply revert the fine back to the original price without all the interest added on it and simply pay that off.

you know... I think it would... it's not that hard to use your plate to get ur info then blacklisting your name. Honestly, that $100 will save you much more in the long run. Then again it seems like alot of people here simply disregard it and it seems to be doing them just fine... so umm your call.

LOL, I haven't paid a parking ticket for years and my credit report is untouched. We have another thread on this topic, search for it.
im guessing this is your first time ever to get a parking tix and not pay it? LOL
of course you get letters, calls, and all that bs. ignore it. they can't make you pay anything and they can't do anything to you. please don't get scam by these stupid companies.
I never paid any parking tix, and yeah i got 10+ for sure.
calls and letters will stop after a few months. no biggie.
**only parking tickets you need to pay is the ones issued by the city/government/cop.**

dont worry about it, if they phone you, ask to speak to their manager and tell him to go fuck his hat
ive gotten a handful of parking tickets while im in van, since im from kelowna i dont even need to worry about not parking in their shitty lots anymore. and i just got a loan and there isnt anything atall about not paying any parking tickets in my history
after i told the manager at wiggins to piss off and stop calling me they never bothered even to send me another letter

Just don't park in their lots without paying again if you already owe tickets to them. Rumor has it they will just tow you instead of ticketing you if they see your spot to have expired, and even if you could somehow retrieve or waive the towing fee it is more of a pain in the ass than 3-4 bucks is worth.

ummm yea bro... take it from me i got parking tickets from these pricks like you wouldn't believe... At first the tickets were only $65.00(3 of them) back in 2004. I ignored it; then in 2008 they sent me the Wiggins Adjustment letter and on the letter it said i owed $450 for not paying them over the years the taxes added up. So i changed my plates and everything.... never heard from them again.

Next time...SEARCH!! I did, and I found the original thread and post in it..
Just ignore it, its fucking stupid. I did, they sent me 3 letters, called me 2 times and done.
Impark is more annoying, they actually call u every fucking single mutha fuckina day
Harvey Specter
02-13-2009, 03:26 AM
Yup, they'll tow your car if they spot your plate and you own them money so that's why you stay away from DP lots or you go get yourself new plates.
if impark is harassing your home phone every damn night or close to that
just give them a call, ask them to waive the whole damn ticket (make any bs/random reason you want), they will 99% say no and tell you to pay the original price. saying how is a good deal, since your ticket now is like $100-$400 lol.
now, you tell them, you ain't paying them NOTHING. and hang up.
usually after this, they won't call you again. they will just start sending you a few lame collection letters and it's done.
for university/college parking tickets... i got like 4 within 2 weeks from SFU. (yes, i'm an asshole, i park at their 15min drop off spot back then for one of my morning class LOL) don't think they'll tow you.. maybe you need 5+ tickets? I'm not sure. and of course i didn't pay any of them and they didn't give me any trouble. no calls, no letters, lol.
hope it helps.

I've also heard that if you tell them to stop calling (harrassing) you, then they have to stop as it becomes borderline criminal harassment especially if they are calling you everyday.

There is an easy way to get these people to stop calling.
According to the BUSINESS PRACTICES AND CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT;
(4) A collector must not continue to communicate with a debtor
(a) except in writing, if the debtor
(i) $has notified the collector to communicate in writing only, and
(ii) $has provided a mailing address at which the debtor may be contacted,
see this link: http://www.bclaws.ca/EPLibraries/bclaws_new/document/ID/freeside/04002_09
Simply send the collections agency a fax stating you wish to be contacted by written correspondence ONLY and state the mailing address at which they can send mail to you. Provide your full name and be sure to clearly note what matter pertains to (i.e. parking ticket for license plate number ABC 123) sign the fax, and record the date you sent it. Keep the fax. You also need to send the same fax to the creditor (i.e. the parking lot company such as Diamond Parking).
If by chance they are calling you about a parking ticket from Diamond Parking, in the same fax, tell them you wish to dispute the ticket and all related charges in court. They wont take you to court because it's your word against theirs, they won't win. Even if they tried the cost of pursuing the matter in court far exceeds the sum they can hope to recover.
Lastly, a parking ticket and fine from a private parking lot WILL NOT and CAN NOT affect your credit rating. You did not borrow money from them and not pay it back. Parking tickets from the city or a government entity, however, is a different story.

but wouldnt they have ur plates on record and tow you on sight next time?
well i guess it comes down to that.. ignore the parking tickets? >.<
they'll only knw if you park there again without paying. If you park with a paid ticket, the attendant's not going to look up ur plate.
Either way, if you're really worried, just change ur plate for $18

change your plates and your fine. havnt ever paid one of these parking tickets off and my credit is fine. there is no way they can fuck your credit history up if you havnt signed some sort of contract.
the most they can do is take you to court. but there is no chance of that because who the fuck is gonna take someone to court to pay 100 bucks. not only are there court fees. but im sure that they also have to call in the person who wrote the ticket out. all that work and lost wages just for 100 bucks. fuck that shit.

well, i had a ticket 4 months ago, got a letter, states to pay 100 bucks since i missed the orginal 70$ ticket and had to pay additional 30 for the delay.
so i called them, told them i never got a ticket on my window and they just said "ok pay 35 then". and so i did.
Meh, i did violate their parking rule, might as well pay it for a discount then getting through all those annoying steps of getting letters

these clowns sent me a letter last friday!
saying that i left the restaurants parking lot to go to "yohan shopping center" wich is bullshit cause ive never even been in there! i had simply parked in a restaurant parking lot, walked about 2 minutes down the road to an atm, then went to the restaurant, ate my lunch with some friends, then came back to my truck to find it ticketed. if they think im going to pay, they can simply fuck right off.
im changing my plates, cops keep harassing me cause i dont have a front plate (4x4'ing at stave lake...its in the mud somewhere) so its just easier this way.
Sorry for the thread highjack, but I posted this on the SFU thread, and seems like nobody knew the answer.
So I just received a ticket from SFU Burnaby G-Lot. They wrote down the license plate and the model, but didn't write down my parking permit number. I have registered my car on the SFU parking page, but do they actually cross-reference my license plate with my parking permit/sfu ID? Has anyone not paid and got away with it? Or do they actually hunt you down? Would it affect any future purchases of parking passes?
Thanks!

they use an automated caller when they call your house. i simply chose the option for something along the lines of "this person does not live here" and never got a call back

the real question is, on what authority does ICBC have to give out your personal information for the collection of a debt to a private corporation (like all these private parking lot companies are)?
i don't really see anything that would support such a disclosure in the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
A lot of these companies will claim that simply by entering their parking lot you have implicitly consented to their terms and conditions but the according to the FOI act, there is no such thing as implicit consent. it has to be written. some parking lots give you the terms and conditions on the ticket you buy but that's AFTER you have purchased the ticket, not before.
someone needs to challenge ICBC on their authority to simply hand out our personal information (like our names/addresses/phone numbers/etc) to private companies.
as an aside, the FOI Act does allow ICBC to disclose such information to public bodies (like the City of Vancouver, the various police agencies, etc) for various reasons (like the collection of a debt).

One thing to note, is that if the balance has been sent to collections, the amount owing cannot be owed to two different parties, therefore, if the collections company is trying to collect, Diamond is not legally allowed to tow your car, regardless of how their parking lot disclaimer may be worded. (Collections company may be allowed though,...)
I also strongly doubt that diamond/wiggins, can or will leave any feedback on your credit history.
But really, if you got a parking ticket, just pay it. They dont usually give parking tickets to people who aren't supposed to get them.

I doubt that's what bothers most people. It is more so the matter that you never receiving a ticket then suddenly 3 months down the road get your first letter saying you haven't paid and now owe $100.

Emphasis on the USUALLY as I received a ticket a few months back when my car was not even in Impark's lot. They're saying that I parked at one of their lots in New West when that simply was not the case as I was downtown all day that day. Tried calling them to tell them that and that I have proof I wasn't in their lot but their phone lines take forever so I just said screw it and have been ignoring their efforts since.

What?
Diamond and Impark are different businesses. If you've been arguing that you were not in Impark's lot, then by process of elimination, you could still be parked in Diamond Parking's lot?
I was under the impression that this thread was about private parking lots in general and not specifically Diamond.
I supposedly parked in Impark's lot, so Impark gave me a ticket for parking in their lot. However, I was not parked in anyone's lot that day so what I'm assuming happened is that they recorded down the wrong plate #.

remember that icbc is giving your name, phone numbers, and home addresses to these private corporations (without your explicit consent)... so even if you change your plates, they'll still be able to link the plates together. you might escape the immediate tow i suppose.

Isn't getting new plates from ICBC about $45? If so why not pay the ticket if you know early enough about it and keep your plates?
Companies like DPS will also eliminate the extra late charges and allow you to just pay the original amount even the collections companies will also, you just gotta ask and make it clear if they don't then they won't see a penny from you.

:smug:Communication with debtor
A collector must not continue to communicate with a debtor except in writing, if the debtor has notified the collector to communicate in writing only, and has provided a mailing address at which the debtor may be contacted
For example: This is to direct you to communicate with me in writing only at the following email address:
I recommend that you put this notification in writing to the collection agency and the creditor in a manner that would provide proof that this action has taken place. This could include fax with confirmation, email with confirmation, registered mail, or a cc of your email to the Mainland British Columbia Better Business Bureau. Be sure to keep a copy of the letter for your records. Fax Wiggins at 604-530-4977as faxing is the most efficient method of contact ensuring that you keep a copy of the fax confirmation allowing 4 to 5 business days for the business to process your information. If the calls do not stop, you can file a complaint with The BBB, or here: Consumer Protection BC (http://www.consumerprotectionbc.ca/)

I got a ticketed once. Think around years 2005. I parked at safeway by kingsway and joyce. Decided to drop by starbucks across the street for a quick capp. It was raining that day, so got back to my car, started my car, flipped my wiper switch and saw a piece of paper swiped across me from the passenger side and flew off. Month later i got a call saying i own them money for parking in the lot but not going into supermarket. I told them i didn't get any ticket or any sign of note on my car and i ain't paying shit just cause you said so. Few days later it hit me, so that piece of paper was the ticket. If that ass who wrote it and put it on the driver side i might had notice it and paid it. But too bad he put the ticket on the passenger side.
What happen now?
-Plate got changed
-Cancelled our home phone due to 7-8am wake up call from telemarketer every fucking day.
-Credit untouched
-letter stopped
-Didn't pay a cent

just come up with some BS story to appeal the ticket first.
Luckily every time I have gotten a ticket, I have been able to get away with it.
Impark:
I called them, and told them their machines were completely f'ed up. Ticket Cancelled.
DPS:
Got a ticket for walking off their lot. Saw the ticket, went to a store in their lot after the ticket was issued, bought something. Said I waited in line for a while! Then contacted them, appealed, and cancelled.
Rather than ignore, everything should try to appeal first. You will be surprised how much they will reduce the fee's or even cancel.
To: appeals@diamondparking.com
To whom it may concern,
This email is in regards to ticket #51497261 which I received tonight at lot #4235. I was ticketed for being parked in two stalls when in fact one tire was barely crossing the line on one side of the stall. The vehicle in the stall to my immediate right had both tires well into my space and I drive a large truck, so in order to even park I had to move over to make it in the spot. There was already another vehicle parked to my immediate left so I was not impeding anyone from parking let alone using two stalls. Being ticketed $78.40 for this is absolutely ridiculous and as a matter of principle this fine will NEVER be paid no matter how hard a collection agency tries.
Additionally, your officer(s) who patrol lot #4235 have ticketed me twice in the Fitness World parking lot for not having a parking pass when it has very clearly been displayed on my front drivers side like every other vehicle that uses that facility. I don't know if they're just too short to see it or too incompetent to do their job correctly but please tell them to get a grip.
-----------------------
Hi,
Please be advised the notice has been voided as a courtesy. In the future if a notice of this nature were to be issued again we would not be prepared to cancel it.

Sorry to bump this thread but I have a specific question that you guys might have the answer to.
If I receive a ticket and on the same day change my plate number will the collections agency be able to find me a few months after?
So when they call icbc will icbc tell them that on that day this plate was registered to so and so or will icbc say that there is no info for that plate number thus avoiding collections entirely?
Or is changing plate numbers only to avoid being towed?
Thanks.

changing plates only avoids getting towed. your credit doesn't get affected even if it's sent to collections. this only applies to private parking btw.

I got a violation notice from Royal Parking Services. This was three months ago when I parked in one of the couple spaces in the Chinese Mega Bank, next to the Moore's right near Richmond Centre, and I had to take a quick run to go somewhere else. I was gone for less than 5 minutes and lo and behold there's a ticket; wasn't worried about it so I tore it in pieces and drove off :fuckthatshit:
Just today I got a letter in the mail from Royal Parking Services stating about the time I didn't pay for that violation notice. Failure of making the payment may result in your vehicle being towed and/or impounded at your expense or further pursued in provincial court
They listed my license plate, but since then I've changed it because I made some adjustments to my insurance. What's the chances of them taking me to court over eighty seven bucks, or do you think they'll just bugger off eventually?

I had a similar case and I had called them back asking which parking lot I was ticketed in and I informed them that the parking lot no longer exists. They waived it.
I'm not sure what they can do to your credit but I suggest either e-mailing them or calling them saying you never got the first notice and that you would pay the original ammount of the ticket if you want to cover your ass.
Maybe some others will chime in with even more escalated situations with diamond parking but from my understanding you're safe.

I actually appealed my ticket thru email and they cancelled it because it was my first time. But yeah they won't be able to affect your credit and they won't take you to court. There is no case in BC that involves private parking ticket collections - I checked.

In the case of that TD, fuck over customers. Take over lot for busy bank parking, make 70% of it pay, write shit tickets all day.

Sort of off topic but by friend caught some meter nanny writing him a ticket but he still had 10 minutes remaining on the parking meter. So my friend quickly snapped a picture of the meter and of the guy writing the ticket, supposedly the parking guy said he was giving the other driver a ticket but there was only one meter, lol. When my friend told him he snapped pictures, the meter nanny decided to walk off, got back in his car and drove off. My friend is sending the pictures and a letter to the city.

Sushi garden? If so, that ticket guy just stands by the wall of Staples and watches everyone park. If you park in Staples space and walk to Churchs or Sushi garden, he walks up right away, takes a pic of your car and issues ticket. He's fast, he leans by the wall in his blue jacket with glasses and just waits for drivers to make a mistake.

Could just be an empty threat.
Several years ago, my dad was being harassed by these wiggins goons, my dad told them to please file a suit and they could meet in court. They told my dad that they will not file a suit, but will just continue to harass with calls.
Eventually they gave up.
I'd also doubt they would file suit for something like 100-200, they loose money if they do.

Looks like it's from a Attorney but it's just themselves.
Plus it's only a "recommendation" to file suite, not the suite itself.
fight it. Attorney fees itself is going to cost more than their return so it makes little sense

LoL! That's an empty scare tactic if I've ever seen one.
So they mail you an internal Recommendation to File Suit form that's from the Complainants department of Wiggins to the Attorneys/Credit Bureau department of Wiggins.
If they were really going to file suit, they wouldn't send you this letter, which means the only reason they're sending it is to try to scare you into paying.
I like how it is both the Attorneys and Credit Bureau department... trying to instil not just one, but two fears. But why would their Attorney and Credit Bureau be combined? I don't think their roles are even remotely close enough to be a shared department.

They aren't going to sue for $100 bro. That's the cost of filing the claim it self, and then there are all of the associated costs and time paid to the employees involved in a lawsuit. Frankly I'm not even sure if they'd win, I'm pretty sure a few scenarios are not that cut-and-dry especially any scenario not involving a meter (i.e. You have a ticket for parking over 2 hours at a mall. It is completely disputable that you actually were especially if it's very close and you were there for maybe from 1-3:10 - and it's very difficult to prove).
I can't imagine them under any possibility bothering to do this unless they somehow have solid proof that you owe them well over a grand in parking tickets and they are reasonably convinced that they can recover this from you in court.
Can any legal expert chime in to say what limits they have to setting the fines? Looking at these some of them are ridiculous..$112? Why don't I just make a $1000 parking ticket then? It seems completely arbitrary to me, and some of the violations are so petty and stupid.
FWIW I've never once gotten called for whatever reason. Haven't gotten the letter above either but since you're all getting it I expect to see it soon - in my recycling bin.

Aren't there laws about how early and often these guys can call? If I were you guys I'd start getting screencaps from your phone showing how often they call and at what times so the collection agencies will start getting some heat. Getting called that often and early is supreme bullshit.

3rd party collection agencies(Wiggins, Iqor, CBV, etc) are restricted by law. They can only phone you at work to obtain your home phone number. Any questions past that is harassment. Once they phone your house once you can ask them to never call again. If they do, it's harassment. This is why they have begun to use an automated service. They have even deleted the "If you are not this person, press 4" option so you can't get them to stop on your own. I've heard you can press 9 or # a bunch of times to prevent future calls from that number. Not 100% about that though. All letters they send are just threats. The only thing that CAN do is put a collection notice/outstanding debt on your credit bureau. A private lot company, like Impark or Diamond, can tow your car if you owe and are parked on there lot. Even if you are paid at the time of parking.
Most lenders don't hold too much weight to those types of collections as they understand how ruthless and unfair they can be. Sorry if any of this info is redundant or already posted. 3rd party collections can eat a dick.

For those that mention Impark/Diamond Park might/will tow your car if you park at their lot again (hard not to, they are all over Lower Mainland) and see you have an outstanding ticket...

I got a ticket with Diamond Parking recently but it was a hand written ticket for $78. I paid for parking but arrived 13 min late right after the ticket was written. When I looked up online for the ticket with the ticket number and my license plate, I couldn't find it. So when I called to ask about this ticket, it turned out they inputted my license plate incorrectly into their system from the hand written ticket. Of course I didn't correct them on that. So I may be off the hook assuming they don't refer back to the handwritten paper ticket. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Do you pay your parking tickets from companies like Royal Parking Services in Richmond if the vehicle is a lease??

DPS is the worst kind of company around. Unlike Impark and other legit parking companies, DPS's model is to monitor the lot and give out as many tickets as possible.
There's a few malls that look like they have a shared parking lot, but if you walk to the other mall, they will give you a ticket.
I have no problem with pay parking but these guys are a joke.

Just noticed this thread. I've had a lot of parking tickets due to my job. For Diamond parking I've been able to get out of every single one. I just emailed them.
questions@diamondparking.com
I was very polite and professional. Stating that the time entered on my ticket was incorrect (or whatever the case may be). And added scanned copies of receipts or references to prove I wasn't parked there. I just kept replying to the email every day asking for updates, they always cancelled the ticket within 5 days of my original email
The key is to be polite and professional. They are usually a hand written ticket that can't be backed up legally. Don't abuse this information and ruin it for me the next time I get a ticket though, lol.
