the voice is actually Obama's. If you read the story, you'll see that this is all from the audio version of "Dreams From My Father". In the written version, he wrote an excerpt about someone else he knew in the past and quoted him with these lines. Since Obama narrated the audio book, he was forced to say these things since they were in fact words in his written version.
