Lost Keys + Someone Attempted to BREAK IN!

Ok posting for a friend.
He lost his keys at school (Langara) and was waiting for someone to bring a spare key. While waiting he saw the car unlock, he kept watching from far away and someone went up to the car and he chased after him.
WELL wat should he do, since this is at school and the fucking theif could easily break in the car now.

wait till the theif gets close to the car, tries to open the door, then tackle him

bring the car back to the dealership and have them reprogram the alarm and give you a new set of locks

Well your friend is kind of stupid. Why didn't he wait until the guy was near his car and then get him instead of scaring him away? If he is going to chase him, at least be confident enough to be able to catch up to him.

$2000 or car.
Tell him to choose.
Even he manages to get the originals back/ get the guy who has the originals, there could be a spare copy made for it already.

well first off, your friend should have never chased him. he should of casually walked towards the car, then attack.
Get an aftermarket alarm system as well as changing your key lock cylinders.

Get an aftermarket alarm with a starter kill. He could put in some sort of hidden kill switch so it won't start unless it's switched on. My dad put one in my car when I was in highschool probably cost about $10 in parts.

put an aftermarket alarm on it or an immobilizer. and than just make sure that you dont leave anything of value in the car

I would either pay the 2000 bucks to have peace of mind that someone doesn't have access to your car whenever he wants.
Or
Wait for him to come back, but kinda hard, considering another golden oppurtunity to find the guy trying to get in your car with you watching from a distance is unlikely, considering you'll have to set up a camp around your car while you're at school.
Either way, sucks that your friend didn't get him the one and only easy chance he had.

I just had another idea. GPS tracker, I don't think there to expensive my dad has one in his truck and trailer. That way when he steals it you can track him down.

does your friend have any roadstar coverage?
http://www.icbc.com/insurance/insura_savemo_rdstar_packag_lockrePU.asp
If you have the RoadStar Package, we will pay you up to $500 for the cost of replacing your keys or for re-keying the locks on your vehicle, if your keys or remote keyless entry transmitter are stolen.
You must carry insurance to cover theft, either Autoplan Comprehensive or Specified Perils. Your claim will be subject to its usual deductible [click for definition]. For the same coverage without having to pay the deductible, you can purchase RoadsidePlus.
i know $500 max is not $2000, but it helps a bit?

Keep hitting the unlock button on the remote and see which car has their lights flashing. Or if not as stealth, can hit the lock button to hear the beep or panic for the repeated beeps.

+1 if your car is not some new European car. That's the cheapest way to get around it...

Just put in a hidden switch to your fuel pump.
Stir the pot a little. Drive the car to school with the spare key. Hop in the trunk and wait until the guy drives off with you in the trunk of the car. Call the police and tell them you're location/car description and you just got car jacked and kidnapped!
Hopefully the guy doesn't open the trunk and see you, even if that happens you can just unleash the fury on his ass!

You pay me to watch your car in the parking lot. I will then attack whoever tries to get access and recover your keys. I will have two people watching and waiting. Let me know.

Did your friend get a good look at the guy to at least recognize him if he sees him again.
He lost them at Langara and the guy that picked up the keys probably goes there as well, he might bump into him again around campus.
Have your friend draw a picture of what he looks like. lol.

if someone tried to break into my fucking car with my own god damn keys...they would end up in the trunk, then dropped off in surrey in time for the latest shooting

I'd have to agree.
Your friend should have walked up casually pretending to go into a car next you his or a close by car and when close enough, tackle the mofo and beat the living shit out of him.
Oh and don't make eye contact until the very last moment. Otherwise you'll give it away.
install a bomb so when the guy tries to start it he get's blown to shit

Since he has your keys, would that still be considered trying to 'break in'? I would say someone attempted to steal it.

ditch the old car, and buy a 91 honda civic or something:thumbsup:

or you could do the obvious, phone your autoplan broker, check if its covered, get your locks changed and remote frequency reprogramed.
we do it all the time for people at honda that lose their keys/get them stolen.
its rare that icbc wotn pay.
or the other option is post about it on RS and wait for all the retards to post away some nonsense that doesnt actually solve the problem
your choice tho

for those asking if it is still illegal if he has the keys:
yes, it is still unlawful entry. did 'your friend' tell him he could go in his car and give him the keys? no? then its the same as going into some random person's house.

next time you should hide under your car, so when the thief comes you just slash his heels with a knife so he cant run :)
or replace the locks. =p

Obviously it's still illegal... but just questioning whether "breaking in" is the right term here, since he wouldn't need to "break" in.

I'm not sure if it's considered "breaking in", but if you forget your keys somewhere and they get stolen, and later your vehicle is stolen, then you are still covered by ICBC (if they don't suspect any collusion). It happened to a relative of mine who left his keys in the bathroom at Capilano, went back and found they were stolen, and later his car was stolen and crashed.

Depends what you buy I guess? My dad paid $395 for the units and pays $25 a month for the service. It works great, after having his last trailer stolen he won't risk not having it again. It probably isn't practical in this case though, I'd probably just buy a club.
I'm assuming he's got his keys now.
A low tech solution - go put some kind of anti theft device like a Club on it. Not foolproof, but it's a deterrent if he wants to stop the person from stealing his/her car.
Also remove valuables from car.
Rekey the locks and reprogram immobilizer if it has one. If you don't want to get ripped off by the dealership, see if you can find a locksmith that does automotive locks and see if they'll rekey it for you.
