Alert: 6/49 Jackpot Est. at $48 Million But Probably Way Higher
InvisibleSoul
02-19-2009, 12:30 PM
Nobody won the estimated $39 million jackpot yesterday... which means the next draw on Saturday will be BIG, BIG, BIG!
They estimate that it will be $48 million, but I think it'll be WAAAAY higher than that.
The biggest ever jackpot previously was $54 million or so back in 2005, but they only estimated that one to be $40 million.
Given the trend of how this jackpot built up...
$4M (+$5M) $9M (+$7M) $16M (+$9M) $26M (+$13M) $39M
I don't know how they figure the next jackpot will only be $48M.
I wouldn't be surprised if the jackpot grew by $20M this week, which would mean that the jackpot could be $60 MILLION DOLLARS!
So what are YOU going to do when you win? :p

Is this the record high for 6/49? Don't remember it being any higher?
It was on CTV news, they had some math whiz prof at SFU do the math, your chance of winning is like 1 in 13,890,XXX.
I think if you're meant to win or want to join the fun and have that false hope we all have, one ticket is enough, haha.
Even if it was split between like 3 winning tickets, you still walk with 16 million each. I'll take that. Unless you're like MC Hammer stupid, 16 sets you and your kids for life and then some with interest and all.

At this point, it's the largest ESTIMATED jackpot for a draw.
The draw in 2005 was estimated to be $40M, but it ended up being $54M.
This upcoming draw is estimated to be $48M, but it's anyone's guess what the actual amount ends up being.

No, wouldn't work. Might work the first time, maybe the second time, but if it becomes too common, people would stop putting extra money into each of those draws. People only have so much money to spend on the lottery, and they wouldn't be able to sustain spending the extra amounts of money for every draw, even if it was $100M.

You would think the estimate would be accurate. Everything they've already collected from the ticket purchase for the $39 mil jackpot is already put aside. Whatever people are spending to buy tickets for the $48 mil jackpot adds nothing to $48 mil?

You would think the estimate would be accurate. Everything they've already collected from the ticket purchase for the $39 mil jackpot is already put aside. Whatever people are spending to buy tickets for the $48 mil jackpot adds nothing to $48 mil?
the estimation comes from the way the jackpot is calculated. Winner gets 80% of the total fund, 5/6+bonus gives 5.75%, 5/6 gives 4.75%. You can't accurately determine totals when funds aren't finalized, and when prizes are paid out based on percents.
if i won, im buying a big piece of fucking land somewhere close in the lower mainland, and turning it into a track!
it will probably be 1/2mile by 1/2 a mile so i can have a drag and a race track on the same land.
ill charge enough to keep it running but keep it dirt cheap...
ill start my own mod shop, doing replica cars from tv shows from my youth, aka a-team van, general lee, peck yau van for power rangers, replica kit (the real one, no offense to mustang owners, but kit belongs to the firebird) :D

I learned that when the jackpots get really large, this all changes. They have a deflator rule that comes into effect, which reduces the main jackpot, but distributes more of the fund to the lower prizes instead.

Just ask the people who've already lined up to buy tickets. Every one of them questioned Thursday in a brief Province survey of downtown Vancouver sidewalks figured they were holding that ticket.

this brings up another issue... maybe i should start another thread...
what's the point of being a millionair when your 60. How can you enjoy life at that age, going on cruises for the rest of your life. I think i'd have a better time being broke and spending my money young that being an old fuck driving around in a lambo.
6/6 $12,574,733.00 3 Ont
1 Que
I was off by....6 people.
A couple of people in the lower mainland did get 5 plus the bonus for a little under a quarter mil.

Please please I really need to win this. Pleaseee. I have always lived like a loser. Winning this lottery would be my biggest hope of living. Please let me win. Or else I will have no point in living. I'm 30 and never had a girlfriend. I share a Corolla with my mom. My dad past away when I was 6. I have been living in my mom's basement with 6 other tenants. Please let me win. I have never done well in school. If I win I can finally make my mom proud. In her eyes, I'm always a loser. I'm 30 now with no job. I don't have a lot of friends. I play computer games and living in poverty. Please I beg God let me win this please. I need it.
Damn, sounds like your exaggerating. Maybe if you get out the house and find a job, that can be a start.

Its anyone's dream to live a rich and famous life. If it takes 60 years, it takes 60 years. I mean you don't choose when your golden years are.

Actually, there were four winning tickets... three in Ontario, and one in Quebec.
The west gets shafted again. :p
There were 20 people who got five plus bonus... each getting almost $225,000... not too shabby.
They definitely did apply the deflator rule though... so the main jackpot was "only" $50M.
They distributed more of the prize money to the lower levels... so whereas 4/6 in the previous draw only won $68, for this draw, it was worth three times more at $207.

One person got 5 out of 6 in Nanaimo. I wonder if your gas station sold the ticket?
I hate ontario so much.
Even though I knew they would most likely win.
