Your guys two comments COULDN'T be farther from the truth. If you think their's nothing to see then im pretty sure you went their not looking for anything. I'd say in terms of sites to see its more than Vancouver offers. Its a bustling tourist destination for a reason. The city is FAR from boring. You have to understand the logistics. Their are three main large universities/colleges of upwards to a total of 50,000 students. In terms of kids aged 19-25 their are upwards of probably 80 000 - 100 000 out of the 350 000 person population. With uvic having a 3-1 girls to guys ratio their is a plethora of women. They are primarily Caucasian however, so those with the yellow fever should be warned. The number of house parties in Victoria are far more than in Vancouver do to the no fraternities and the large population of students that rent houses. The nightlife is bustling, especially during the school year. However, during the summer months the nightlife is if not better do to the open patios and warm weather.
Now in terms of Uvic. Its the perfect quantity of people. 20 000 students roughly which allows for a great mix of students from all over. When I was in res 4 years ago things were a little different to how they are now. They were more lax when I went. However, now they offer parties with alcohol for student in res. Your allowed to drink in your own room as much as you want even if your underage.
However, my favorite thing about Uvic was actually the classes, teachers, and friendships bonded in class. Its a far different environment do to the mixture of class sizes. They promote kids to interact with one another. I would highly suggest you try Uvic. Sign up for residence and try out first semester.

Yes...but its not worth it. Every person I met who didnt live in res first year regreted it. Give me the breakdown of the cost. Including a medium food plan.
Divide that by 8. Now remember, if you were renting, you'd most likely have to rent for 12 months, even though you might only be in vic for 8. So consider that as well. Allocate another 400-500 on food a month if you rented as well as about 60-100 on utilities.
It adds up living on your own or even with freinds especially in first year. Now while living later in life with 4 freinds is much cheaper than residence I suppose, i'd still reccommend living on res to meet new people and experience the residence life.

With a medium meal plan your looking at $7286 for the 8 months. Plus tuition of $5000, your looking at about $12 000.
Now in terms of spending mine for say beer, bars, clubs, weed, cocaine and entertainment, $200 a month should be fine. You'll spend a lot more in the first month, and alot less in the last month during exams because you wont be going out as much.

Im at UVic as I type this! If you wanna meet people and party, then yea live in res. The food on campus is pretty greasy and you'll probably gain some weight, as i know people that have. I live off campus with my gf, its cheaper and i dont have to use communal washrooms.
The city has a lot of nice beaches, people are generally friendly and there's a lot of old people. There's a couple of little malls, but nothing really inside them, so go downtown for shopping. Also, if you're asian, there are no good asian restaurants anywhere. Asian groceries are also hard to find.
As for the school, it's medium sized, which is nice. Quality of education is high. Plus there are tons of hot white girls here! wow. Also, if you're used to going to school in vancouver, richmond etc.. uvic classes are a little different in terms of demographics. For my upper level classes, I am the only non-white person around.
The main reason i like Uvic is because its far enough from Vancouver that I don't have distractions from friends and family, but still close enough that I can come home for the weekend if I really wanted to.

I heard there are a lot of military hating hippies there.
I would not be able to fit in

I would not be able to fit in | Actually its the opposite. When the UVSS banned the military from campaiging on job day, most people opposed their decision and said the military had the same right as anyone to recruit employees.

I'm thinking of applying for residence........ So washrooms are shared by other people at the dorms?
