Is driving while suspended the same as driving while prohibited? And if you don't sign/acknowledge the letter of prohibition and keep on driving, are you considered suspended?

Briefly...a suspension is usually the results of too many tickets. A prohibition is imposed because of a court action...like dangerous driving, impaired driving or driving while suspended. Either way, you are not permitted to drive under any circumstances. do so & get caught and your prohibition/suspension gets way longer than the original. Briefly.

i'm just saying that if i get the letter of prohibition, do i HAVE TO sign it and return it at ICBC or can i just leave it and NOT DRIVE for that length of period stated in the paper...

It's really simple...do what the letter of prohibition says. The period does not start till you sign and return it.

the period doesnt start but you're still prohibited from driving AFAIK, signing it and returning it is like telling them to start the stopwatch (unless i'm mistaken?)

^That would make sense - as zulutango describes it, you could just ignore the letter and keep driving, if the prohibition doesn't actually start until you reply. I believe both ZT and skidmark have said in the past, the prohibition starts the day you get the letter.
