It fits! a split folding seat would have been nice, but this works.

so far so good, I wish it had a rear wiper, but it clears its self off pretty good at speed. I've only found one problem so far, 2 times now, the front wipers have stopped before coming to their normal resting spot.

Going to start modding soon, picked up a boost gauge already, gonna need a boost controller, going to make an open air filter pod, and Rodan is fiending to build a dual 3" exhaust and hardpipes with a bov.

oh and rims.... rims are a must. any suggestions? I've always wanted to run Work Emotion CR kais. No idea on color for rims yet either. gold would look good but it's played out. White would look alright but wheel choices are limited. gunmetal or bronze will probably end up on there in the end.

IMO bronze (and gold) are beyond cliched. Get black wheels for the thug look.

They ride awesome actually. I got the devun walsh HKD series and it won some awards and shit this year for best board etc. It's great for all over the mountain, It's great for the park, powder, groomers and just screwing around in general. No complaints except the initial price was a lot haha.

back to the car..

I got over the fact that it's a hyundai a while ago, I'm sure most others will soon enough when they start getting more popular over here.

The grill will eventually be changed, but to get rid of the H, but because some of the onesi've seen from Korea just look a lot better and finish off the front end. It is pretty agressive in person though, with the headlights and body lines in the hood, also that fact that it looks as wide as a super duty pickup. The grille is kinda meh though.
The jim pattison sticker will come off when I have time to do it carefully. It's like an ICBC decal, not coming off easily!

as for price, that's been discussed enough in the last thread.

Interior quality is pretty nice. It's no worse than my parents 02 RSX and better than any american car in it's price range. please see one in person and sit in one before timposting about the interior quality from pictures ;)

0-60 is good. I imagine that 7 seconds was done with traction control on. Traction control can die. it kills the fuel or something when the tires start slipping. Not the fastest way to get up to speed. Wheelspin isn't really an issue in the dry, so I keep TC off most of the time.

I want to lower it as well, but nothing available yet. and as for the foglights. I think tinting the lens yellow would be pretty win. Havn't seen it done on one of these yet and blue and yellow are lovers.

the coupe is definitely more appealing than the sedan

just run some aftermarket NOkya 3000k bulb or run some super jdm yellow hid fogs, get hid for ur healight as well if they arent HID yet ( can get u a set if u need )

get some Advan super racing 2 if u wonna be rare, otherwise i think RZ will look hot on ur car with black chrome finish or bronze

CF hood or trunk will not cut it.

Seriously, the car is over weight by couple hundred pounds. Some other "performance" vehicles even close to the thousand mark (look at M3 and GTR). Dead weight is dead weight. Law of physic always apply.

drop those heavy factory seats for some Seibon CF or what not I think that's 100lb off right there.

and then dump the rear seats (not like there is proper headroom in there anyways), parcel shelf.... another 80lbs at least?

and then throw on some forged alloys.Wait for HKS to release Ti exhaust for it - these components weight a ton from factory using mild steel. And that muffler is unnecessarily large.

Carbon hood/trunk maybe? but those I find are minimal in weight loss. I think they are aluminum already as it is?

Should feel feather weight after all that.

I still don't like the font no matter how much I look at it. It's not growing on me.

Every other angle looks pretty good, except the front.

ShanghaiKid

just went to rmd automall to check the 2.0T and the v6 out...

im was so tempted... to be one of the first to own one locally, but my only problem is what "Hyundai" means in the auto industry (what will this car be/look like in a few years? will it be reliable? a worthwhile investment for a college student looking for a sporty whip?).

1990TSI
03-06-2009, 11:23 PM
as or being one of the first to own locally, it don't mean shit, coming from the first to own locally ;) Don't buy it for that reason, wait for an R33 GTR for attention and being an industry pioneer. people will still think you're either "in a new hyundai" or "in a new Tiburon" and you're not going to impress people unless they're that pro snowboarder in squamish who ended up working at a shop and actually knew what the thing was when I was at the bank and couldn't beleive his eyes.

as for hyundai, I think this car and the sedan will turn shit around. add that to the 10k new accent, hyundai will be popular soon. with the americans going down any day now, hyundai should be a name for once. they're comin out with good cars and amazing warranties. the fit and finish is great and the build quality is quite amazing and the price is right. it's taken some time but I think this or next will be their year. The only real reason not to buy one is if you're a fucking richmond fob who needs a MB or BMW badge to impress friends and family.

as for the worthwhile investment, any new car is a horrible investment, and sure you could get a used wrx for way cheaper with the same resale value..... but I didn't want that. It's hard to say what the resale value will be, but I assume they'll be selling for 20k by the end of the year :( 20k for a 1 year old beat the fuck on sports coupe haha.

I'd say go for it. it gives a big fuck you to the american automakers if nothing else. that's why I got one.

It's not like a car lots of people will be wow-ing over. But besides that, being new owners to new cars aren't always the best thing. Let other people test it out and be guinea pigs for the errors and call backs. Buy it next year. lol

god that's so ignorant. yea sure the hyundai badge doesn't make girls think you're baller or make them wet their pants like a lambo or ferrari but it doesn't mean it's not nice to have such a car.

people used to think that about japanese cars in the not so long ago past.

when the first Datsun Z came over no one gave much of a crap but now to tons of people it's just jizz inducing.

i'm not saying the Genesis will accrue the same sort of reaction or cult following but it definitely isn't impossible.

don't be so narrow minded, that's a problem in our damn society.

hyundai is not comin up anymore, it came up already
for those who haven't or wouldn't try it at all
their interior quality/comfort etc has caught up w/ japanese cars
reliability..... well their new era of cars are just too new to judge
but from where i work, i can tell u.. not much maintenance needed, just regular oil changes is sufficient to keep it problem free

dropped by the automall to take a quick look.

i was able to pick out a bunch of "little things" that stood out to me as cheap or unrefined, but none of those little flaws would've really been too far out of place in any japanese car in the same segment. if you're looking for an enthusiast's performance vehicle, the interior is fine. i'd say that anyone still saying it's cheap and crappy inside should get a reality check and go sit in a Toyota. it's the same thing.

shift throws were a little long but i liked the "snick snick" feel going into the shift gates. the only thing i couldn't stand about the drivers' interface was the clutch. if you take your foot off fast enough, it lags behind and doesn't come up as quickly as you do. it's the same kinda thing i ran into with the Mazda3 I used to drive. makes double clutching a nightmare; it'll slap your foot as you come back down.

the car is definitely a bargain for what it is. there's a lot of hype surrounding this car, but it seems deserved.

1990TSI
03-09-2009, 09:42 PM
the clutch feel sucks. it's a dual mass flywheel meant for old people who care how smooth the ride is. I hear it's a $1200 american part that's non resurfacable. Hopefully they come out with a light weight flywheel/strong clutch soon and I can offset that cost by selling the stock flywheel to a woman who has bought the car and 4 months later needs a new flywheel. The heavy flywheel and stock drive by wire throttle control give it a pretty tame feeling the more I drive it.

There are a few processors that will get rid of the DBW slow response but they're about $300 right now. The clutch and flywheel would be nice to change, but I have a feeling that will mess with the waranty as well, and seeing as how the tranny sucks already after 1500km, that warranty might be good.

I should clarify, the transmission is great, I really love the feel of it, when it's warmed up. when I go to work or drive anytime the car is cold, it doesn't want to go into 1st gear at a stop sign or light. It will leave an intersection in 2nd like an F350, but it should still pop into first gear at a stop when it's -2 without grinding. Hopefully hyundai will bless me with X amount of Redline MTL installed, but I have a feeling I'll be doing it myself.

Other than that, the car has been great. every new car will have a few issues, but overall I couldn't be happier with it.

Also consider changing the tranny oil to GM Synchomesh with friction modifier.

How's the space inside the car? Quite comfy for a mid-sized feller? How comfortable do the people in the back seats sit?

Road noise an issue w/o the radio turned on?

Up front it's great. lots of room for pretty much every sized person. The back, not so much. the tallest I've had in there was about 5'8 and had -5 headroom. The 5'1 girl sitting in the back had a couple inches between her hair and the window. Loads of legroom, but it doesn't mean much when there's no headroom. I havn't personally sat back there yet, but I hope to soon haha.

road noise isn't bad. the interior is pretty quiet, but there is some road noise still. about as much as you may expect there to be from a sports coupe with decent tires on it. with the radio on there's nothing at all.

and this morning it was -7 going to work and it didn't want to go into 1st or 2nd :(

Eric, any idea what sort of gear oil they use? I'd highly suggest you get it flushed and change it with something a little more winter-friendly. Hell, I'll come up this weekend and help you do it! :D

1990TSI
03-10-2009, 04:36 PM
well I just called and the guy said they use standard 75-85 gear oil so it may not be the problem. They want to see the car but they need to see it on a cold morning, which doesn't really work living in squamish and being 45 minutes away haha.

idealy I'd just like some redline MTL in there, but as he said, there may be another issue in there and they want to see it before I start screwing around with it.

also I don't want to pay for it. $12/L is pricey!

Test drove the Genesis 3.8 today, it was really responsive, decent brakes, stable steering.
The powerband was narrow for a V6, it loses power when you go over 5000rpm.
The front seats were great. The rears seats are horrible, no head room at all and Im only 5'7"

I just got mine on Saturday, the 3.8 version, and so far I am very impressed regardless of manufacture they did a great job with this car. Only time will truly tell but my first impressions are very good and they did a lot of small things to make the interior very user/driver friendly IMO

I got the Bathhurst Black and it goes in tomorrow for full tint and new 19" wheels. These are them here, I am very excited to see what they look like on it. Lowering will happen once the products are available.

Took one for a drive. Pretty impressed. The 4 banger is definetly not a quick car, but is still fun. I am thinking I may go with the GT package. LSD, HID's, Brembo's, Stereo, sunroof, 19's with Summer tires, better suspension. It actually makes sense to spend the extra 4 g's.

time for test drive.. that 2.0T GT is quite the bargain out there >< ..... i see tons of potential in modding the 4 banger.. engine has tons of room! turbocharger.. is tiny... it could really use a snail, larger intercooler and better piping.. larger injectors and sorts.. and could push 400 something horses...... easily

this car does use the 4b11 engine right..?
