I doubt Greece has our social safety net, also, in the beginning of the story it said police are afraid and rarely enter that area... where as the cops here don't fear the DTES at all...

Seriously though, Europe's socialism is based on very limited immigration. People often cite the Scandinavian countries for their quality of life, yet fail to realize tight immigration keeps that lifestyle possible, cause with their economy is basically self-sufficient (aka stagnant) so it doesn't depend on immigration for growth as our economy does.

I was in Greece last year, and barring some shitty neighbourhoods in the capital, it was one of the most beautiful countries i've been to...and i've been to a lot.

Most european countries are extremely racist, especially the meditteranean countries because theres large influxes of legal and illegal immigrants especially to greece and italy

and since their economies aren't in good shape the hate just increases

there's openly racist political parties in a lot of the countries there that get a high percentage of votes too
