wow newbie account indeed.... think a little bit about things before you post a response
you don't think a guy who owns an R8 can afford 10 g's for a paintjob ?
The reason he probably went vinyl, hell.. the reason almost ALL exotic car owners go with vinyl wrap is to protect the value of the car since for some stupid reason if a car is fully repainted it's "supposed" to lose a bit of market value when it gets resold..
second... maybe a bit easier for you to understand, the vinyl wrap protects the car's stock paint from most nicks and chips which will definitely come in handy when
A: either the lease is up
or
B: selling the car
oh and I almost forgot, another important reason would be that the car might be a lease, so it's done for return purposes.
in any case..... it's highly likely YOU just got owned, as opposed to the dude rolling around in a batmobile R8 around town..

as for the guys wondering how vinyl wrapping is done....
as you can see in the pics, you need wrap and you need a blowdryer... or if you're good at not melting shit, then heatgun will work

Real rich people don't care about resell value, they don't sell their own cars ! they get their secretary to sell it. "Real Rich" do what they want, care less about outcomes. That's real rich !

this guy parks at ubc rosegarden almost every day. it's the most flat parking lot, so he can enter it without any scrapes. see his car there all the time. and yes, it's a taiwanese guy, roughly year 2 to 3.
i dont know if this is possible, but matte/flat black got played out. not interesting anymore

You're an idiot. You are talking about rich people that have not worked for their money (ie. inheritance). A wealthy person that has worked for their money would definitely be concerned about "outcomes."
On topic: Matte black looks so damn good on that R8. Looking forward to seeing it up close at the auto show.

You do know that owners of exotics in the Middle East and Europe have been wrapping cars like LP640's, F599's, F430's and etc... for the last couple of years right?

sorry I don't know anything about middle east cause I don't get out of my house that far, but I'm limited to North America. Last time I attended the revscene summer meet at #6 road silvercity and seen no exotic with vinyl wrap and I felt dumb attending with a Ferrari.

Usage of sarcasm
Sarcasm is often used as a form of humor and of emotional expression. For example, instead of (or in addition to) becoming angry and yelling while in a conflict, one might choose to use sarcasm as an alternative.

just wondering for insurance purposes if my car was like white and i wrapped it flat black would i have to change my insurance or how would that work??
ShyGuy
03-17-2009, 12:32 AM
FYI, wrapping a white car in black vinyl doesn't work well...the vinyl they use is so thin that you'll still see the white base of the car underneath the vinyl. It's best to use a black car.

haha, 5-6k = think of it as getting a whole new color scheme + Full on 3M type vinyl prot on your car...not too pricey no?
just wondering for insurance purposes if my car was like white and i wrapped it flat black would i have to change my insurance or how would that work??
can anyone answer this?
how would it be if you were stopped by cops and ur icbc papers says your car is yellow (for example) when it's clearly black in color in front of the cop's eyes?
speaking of, reminds me of the TV show viper/the new knight rider when it changes colors when being pursued, just unwrap your vinyl...and voila! getaway GTA style
note to self: research on rotating license plates..

There are a lot of different colors of wrapping vinyls. A lot of colors do come in a glossy finish, and depending what kind of laminate shops that can add to the glossy finish.
