As the title said, got the speeding ticket last week and just realized that the date on the ticket was 2006. What should I do with it and is there any chance I can waive it?

Is it supposed to be 2008? It's easy for a quickly-scribbled 8 to be mistaken for a 6.

If is a clear "6" and the issuing Member mad a mistake in the white area and does not correct it before the actual trial begins and he gives evidence of the wrong date, the VT is defective and no convcition should result. He does have an opportunity to ammend the VT before testimony begins and he should make a motion to do that...if he/she doen't, then it's their loss and your win. Within 12 months of the offence date, he can withdraw the original VT and issue a new one with the correct date on it if he wishes.

btw, if u happen to dispute and go to court.
if the cop asks you why you are disputing, dont tell him until the trial starts.
IIRC, someone with similar situation as u, told the cop about making a mistake on the ticket and the cop wrote the person a new ticket before the trial started. -.-

Just a FYI...whenever I got a dispute notice, the first thing I did was go over the VT and my notes in great detail. If there was any problem, I noted that, did any particular research, printed copies of MC act/regs for disputant and JP and got ready. An experienced Traffic Member should do this as a matter of Court prep as we are not only the prime witness, but the prosecutor as well.

If it's a clear "6" then wouldn't it now be far more than 12 months from the offence date?

;)

More than 12 months from the actual offence date...not the alleged incorrect one on the VT. I would also assume that the court system would catch the 3 year difference and bounce it back at the Member. That has been my experience...me bad!
