OMG this would be a freaking-tastic movie if left in the hands of a decent director.

Speedy fucked it all up... they could have all gotten away scot-free if it weren't for him.

The actual robbery is ridiculous though... the slightest little missed detail would have done them in... and it's amazing every single one of their devices worked exactly as they thought it would... absolutely incredible.

Yeah, it's true... he could have went back to clean it up.

But it's remarkable how they went to such incredible lengths to pull off this heist, only to have something this rookie screw them over.

Actually, you'd be surprised how normal it is for people to put more thought into the crime than getting away with it.

I guess this guys were no exception. Other than what you pointed out, here's another example:

Notarbartolo reflected on his interactions with the diamond dealer, and a thought flashed through his mind: Maybe the dealer wasn't operating alone. If he tipped off a group of his fellow merchants, they could have pulled their inventory out of the vault before the heist. Each could then claim that their gems were stolen and collect the insurance while secretly keeping their stones. Most had safes in their offices—they could have simply kept the stock there. Notarbartolo realized that the heist he had spent so much time planning might have actually been part of an elaborate insurance scam.

He shut off the water. A half hour earlier he was a king. Now he felt like a pawn.
