Dude gets paid almost 500k US for playing Warcraft III
If you're really into playing games and you're good at it, move to Korea?
After spending three years in Meet Your Makers, which let go of their Warcraft III and Starcraft squads in January due to “strategy concern”, Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang, one of the most illustrious players - if not the most - penned a three-year contract with WeMade FOX that worth 700,000,000 won, approximately 473,037 USD based on exchange rate today.
Moon relished the chance to play for a home-ground team, and is keen to bring more trophies in the future. He said in the press conference earlier today, "I am honored to play for a Korea professional gaming team for Koreans. As setting good circumstance of playing, I will give everything to my fans and FOX team by winning lots of titles in 2009."
WeMade FOX manager, in the meantime, hinted at more players making their ways to the newly formed team, "We are concerned with it(training). There aren't many first class players in Korea, and the training condition is pretty poor so players usually train with foreign players. We will introduce more quality players in the near future so I am quite confident of our training scheme."
It not only made the 22-year-old the best paid player in Warcraft III scene, but also the second best paid player in the whole e-Sports scene in Korea, slightly behind Starcraft legend Yoon Yeol 'NaDa' Lee, who signed a contract with WeMade FOX that worth 750,000,000 won back in 2007.
The other familiar active Starcraft players don’t even come close to Moon, as “revolutionist” Bisu’s current contract worth 150,000,000 won, while the other top four players in KeSPA March Ranking, Young Ho 'Flash' Lee, Jae Dong 'Jaedong' Lee and Byung Goo 'Stork' Song earn significantly less.

I don't get why you guys are so mad at them.. lol it's pretty fucking awesome making so much money in your late-teens or early-20's by playing some game you'll probably play yourself even if they didn't pay you..
Play for a few years, make some good money and buy whatever the fuck you want after. However, the guys that are well-recognized get a lot of "special treatment" at clubs and shit..

That's fucking awesome! Maybe one day there will be a game that's mainstream to watch competitions of on TV. Might hard to identify and get into without real faces/people to watch. Might be a solution to that some day.
It's like sports but all brainpower.
I saw a Starcraft 2 demo that was a 1on1 match and had commentators, it was really entertaining to watch.

That shit is mainstream tv for koreans alright. Hahah I was in Korea last year and I remember they had 2 channels reserved for Starcraft competitions that had a thousand or two spectators.

No, to get paid, you gotta be UBERRRRRR L337 sauce at the game. So you probably wouldn't be rich... unless maybe you ARE really that good... :o
Great pay, but what a sad life.
Maybe, but if I was raking in that much money for playing games, I would love it too. And it's not all that "sad". You're a celebrity when you're in that business in South Korea. I wouldn't be surprised if you could pick a bunch of hot chicks. (Just look at any live game with all the girls screaming in the crowds) This is the only place where you can be a gaming nerd + get hot girls.
Anyway, once you're in this level of competition, it's not really all "fun and games." It's like any professional sport, these guys aren't just playing every weekend when it's convienent like what we do. These guys play at least 6-8 hrs on a daily basis to practice/train. (Like what pro atheletes would do according to the sport they play).
And I always thought Boxer was the highest paid gamer, not NaDa...

NaDa has always made more money then BoxeR...his contract is HUGE and you add in endorsements and tournament winnings..

^ I must of read it wrong somewhere then.
I still think BoxeR is still more famous than NaDa, and I'm sure BoxeR would have his own endorsements and stuff.

Actually, SK Gaming, I believe (or rather Ensidia as they're known now since they merged with...Curse, I think) are sponsored World of Warcraft players.
Not surprised at all. For anyone that thinks this is sad...you're getting paid a fuck ton of money to PLAY FUCKING VIDEO GAMES. Tell those nerds to get some sun and women if you want but they have enough money to buy your women...and possibly your sunlight.

I don't think most of you understand what it means to be, for instance, the #1 SC player in Korea. In Korea, the #1 SC player will make Bard Pitt, comparatively, look like William Hung.
They'll make more money, and get more women that any of you here.
