Sooo, i go to the dubberz & honda meet friday... put 89 in it cause my engine is pinning/tinging. ( tank was empty, didnt mix it )
about 3 weeks ago i threw a new Cat in there as well. ( its a full two and a quarter exhaust , header back. )
New Fuel Filter, oil change is happening today and maybe a tranny fulsh.

when im driving it feels like the gas pedal is tight... its not really ...going like it used to, and i already checked the throttle cable, its fine.
And when i let off the gas the exhaust pops 10x's more then what it used to. Like i almost think its going to blow up the muffler.
FYI its a Auto ( had no choice got it for cheap ) , So say i put it in D2, it flys, D3 ... or D4 it just friggin slugs along, its horrible.

whats goin on?

p.s. - im really sorry im horrible at explaining stuff. :eek:

throttle plate? fuel lines? getting enough fuel pressure? new fuel filter cant help if ur fuel pump is failing.

i rarely run the tank empty, for risk of it sucking up any contaminents in the bottom of the tank.

Oh no i replaced the fuel filter cause my car was sputtering and it was pretty much dieing , and the gas smelt like bad gas. ( confusing to explain on my behalf )

yes i am the same way with running empty, i hate doing that .. plus it kills the pump faster.

throttle plates? ( im still learning stuff )

Thanks!

Do the basic checks. Are any of the plug wires loose from the plug end or distributor end.
Take out the plugs and check the plugs. Check the gap on the plugs.

That sputtering in the exhaust should mean unburnt gas in the exhaust. But can't say forsure why D2 is good but D3 and 4 is no good.

How did you check the throttle cable? What makes you think it is still good?

..::lazybum::..

I checked it at my work... silly question :P
Mechanics at my work.

I was thinking unburnt gas.. i SWEAR i seen a reflection 2 nights ago of the exhaust shooting a flame... ha..

And distributor is fine.. i am thinking about getting new plugs though.. they didnt look too healthy last time i checked ( 2 weeks ago )

Silly question, but what did the mechanics at your work say about the car acting weird?

..::lazybum::..
03-16-2009, 01:08 PM
the way i described it.. they were like "wtf"
They think it has to do with the engine.
But i mean i dunno.. their specialty isnt engine , i work at budget break and muffler ( theyre older , not just some young punks )

But yeh they dont think its the exhaust, or Cat.. i was thinking a faulty cat

by checking ur throttle plate, i mean check if its dirty, check the tbody for dirt. it doesnt hurt to clean it though assuming from the picture, its a 92 civic hatch, and probably uses the bypass idle valve. they tend to get dirty.

check plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. those are the standard 4 things to always look at with a honda.

..::lazybum::..
03-16-2009, 01:32 PM
yeh , the dizzy i already know is a common problem with them , dizzy looked fine...etc etc all looked fine.

Oh and another thing its doing, it seems as thought its not clicking into its gear on the right note... sounds like its hesitant... and no its not slipping... at all.

_ if that helps.. _

Sounds like you're running too rich. Could you be your TPS is screwed.

..::lazybum::..
03-16-2009, 02:05 PM
whats the TPS?

jack_dangerous
03-16-2009, 02:31 PM
throttle position sensor.. its on your throttle body..

also check your o2 sensor...it might need a change

I second TPS. You should get a civic service manual and troubleshoot the TPS if it's working properly

Berz out.

did you check for codes?

on those EG civics it's very easy to do. all you need is a jumper wire (or even a paper clip)

Um you ever consider it might be your tranny?

..::lazybum::..
03-17-2009, 09:50 AM
i was thinking tranny. but i have gone throught enough trannys with hondas where i would know. only closest thing i would think of to a tranny problem would be tranny fuild.. the guy who owned the car before me NEVER took care of her.

... and never gave her pussy. ;)

lol, why not do it yourself then?

..::lazybum::..
03-17-2009, 10:42 AM
Just did.
Sayss its a possible fuel problem
DTC 43

O2 would be my guess.

O2 has its own code. check pump/filter instead.

taylor192
03-17-2009, 11:57 AM
If you put in a new cat are you sure its not the problem? Some ECUs don't have enough adjustment range to deal with different types of cats, so your O2 might be sending the wrong signals.

..::lazybum::..
03-17-2009, 01:07 PM
cats new. had it double checked too.. its fine.

Filter is fine.. its brand new.
Pump is good as gold.

im only getting like 258k's for a tank of gas.. i should be getting what my friends are getting with their civics... like 400ish
lmao.

but could my exhaust also have something to do withit?
header back two and a quarter.

why would you say that ? ( i am still learning )

make sure your tires aren't mounted incorrectly. I had a broad come in with the exact same complaints, and her tires were on backwards. fixed it up and she was good to go.

when you changed the exhaust did you check or replace the muffler bearings? They fail often on the ol EGs and can cause similar problems as you're having.

Hope that helps

for what car? if its eg civic, i can "guess" its the coil/ignitor that is going on your car, my crx use to do that too. try changing the whole dizzy, or individually change the coil and ignitor in your dizzy. its a common honda problem.

funky driveability and shit mileage? i'd be looking at the O2 sensor.

wouldn't be telling your ECU the proper info which would cause it to possibly compensate for a condition that doesn't exist, and would also mess with your mileage as it might be dumping in extra fuel that it doesn't need to.

1990tsi - thank you i got header back with new exhaust and muffler. it was all done custom and they knew what to do.:)

zero one - thanks but i already stated that my dizzy was fine

raid3n - thank you very much im pretty sure it was the o2. just filled the tank up again and we'll see what happens

Check engine light still hasnt come on.

check your oil cap to make sure there aren't snakes in your valvetrain, 9/10 times that can cause poor mileage and missfiring issues.

LOL.

O2 then.... borrow one from another friend if possible.

That's not the point, the point is, has your car recovered by installing it?

..::lazybum::..
03-18-2009, 12:55 PM
Yes, thats what i tried to state without being rude.
so far so good.
Im going to wait and see till my tank is empty and see how the milage is.

As for the pedal... its not sticking anymore which is strange ( after the 02 ) , and as for it lugging in D3 or D4 , its fine now.
