Simple question:
Are they worth going to? Never been there and I am wondering if their service is worth it? I need to get quite a few simple things done up: Oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, PCV Valve, Air filter.
Thanks in advance.

I'll be honest.
they're expensive but cheaper than the dealership and more convenient. For the most part lazy people like their service. You'll always hear horror stories though and that's every shop/retail place.
people on this board will steer you away though.
good luck.

Before I started working on my own cars many moons ago, I'd go to these quick lube shops (Mr Lube, Great Canadian, Midas, etc). They're very convenient and for the most part it was fine. Yes, if you use coupons, it can be cheaper. However, they also use cheaper products. Basic fluid changes are easy and quick enough, but changing something like your fuel filter may quickly raise your bill total because they're often in difficult to reach locations and may require dismantling part of your engine bay. When it comes to something like that, I'd rather have a mechanic work on the car rather than an oil jockey who's mechanical training is equivilant to a monkey writing the Illiad.

Exactly! So I just called in this morning and asked for an estimate of: Basic oil change, oil filter, air filter, transmission fluid, PCV Valve and engine flush. Total estimate came to $480.xx. He then said with all the services I am getting done he would give me a $60.00 discount making it $420.xx.
Not worth it.

Despite what people say, Mr. Lube really isn't that much cheaper than the dealer, depending on your car of course. Frankly, I don't like the idea of high school idiots screwin' with my car. If I wanted an idiot to work on my car, I'd do it myself.

Mr lube is good for anything that does not need to be dismantled (oil changes diff fluid etc) they buy in bulk so oil changes can be cheaper than doing it yourself, but make sure to buy an oil filter yourself if you have a rare car cause they deffinatly don't stock everything.

Agreed. In fact, they're sometimes more expensive than the dealerships and their filters don't always fit properly either.

same. i think they have quotas to meet and are pressured to sell as much as possible. i don't go there anymore b/c they seem to be highschool kids and not very informed

I like Great Canadian over Mr Lube cuz they dont hassle the shit out of you when you get there. Like.. uh change my fucking oil. I don't want to have my lights checked, transmission flushed or a fucking bj. Just a goddamn oil change please.

I used to work at Lubeworld on 104th, and management forces all the staff to sell you stuff you don't need and they rip you off. Like when you want there "quick flush" for $40 all they put in is a bottle of there $10 and 3L of 15w40 in a used bottle that looks new and is put in with all the new bottles.
They don't even care about your safety. I once had a lady come in and I noticed her left-rear tires were "severely worn" to the point I could see the metal cords showing and the manager came down and told me not to use the word "severely" cause it doesn't matter as long as we tell them it's only "worn or not" and it's on paper that we told the customer it's all ok. so I walked up to the lady and told her then I quit.
But it is true most of there "techs" don't know a damn thing.

lube ain't too bad if you don't like getting your hands dirty. Its a bit cheaper than the dealerships. But they always ask if you want something else changed check etc lol even if you insist on just the oil change. Just watch what they do carefully and nothing will go wrong.

That's a pretty valid question, and the answer is found in the owner's manual assuming the filter is serviceable. Most of the newer cars today don't have separate filters that can be replaced.

does midas work around the same idea where they try and upsell you? I saw their street sign on three road and cambie in richmond where an oilchange is only 24.95 if i remember correctly
