I'm looking for a 13" or smaller notebook to replace my desktop. I'm currently running a Dual Display setup. I want some portability without sacrificing processing power, so I've looked into replacing it with the Toshiba Protege M800 at Best Buy for $900. I'm looking to spend around $1000 for a <13".

The problem is, this laptop only comes with a 10/100 Ethernet connection, but I need it to work with my Gigabit LAN setup cause I transfer huge files to and from my File Server. What solutions do I have without choosing a different notebook?
Also, What's a good TV tuner for notebooks?

I too Also recommend XPS M1330..... A customer bought one off me last week... Got to say that thing is F..ing amazingly sexy... Its got a nice outside cover with leather. Also the one of the only notebooks with a backlight screen which to me is a must... Since more notebooks are comming out with backlight screens might aswell go for one...
How about a asus media notebook.. they are cheap and well built... plus there are a few sales going on with them right now.\
IMO Toshibas arent my favorite but everyone has different opinions especially since i already has a toshiba and it down right sucked.. to many software errors and hardware problems.
Just remember one thing Best Buy Warranty Sucks!!! Atleast dell offeres next day parts.. so if any hardware failes ie. hard drive, they will send one to you next day 9AM...

m1330 is the older style without the leather. And it's only $1000 for the base model which is in your budget.

last I checked there weren't any. unless you somehow get a PCI slot on that laptop.

There are a bunch of USB TV tuners out there.

i've used a pci tv tuner for my desktop and a usb tv tuner for my laptop and they both look like shit. I just stream live tv onto my laptop via wifi. The quality is a lot better than my usb tv tuner.

u300 feels flimsy to me... I find the build quality lacking on most entry laptops.
