heard on the news the demand for them is so high in India they are understock and have waiting list. keep in mind most ppl in indian commute by bike or walk, a 2000 car is a very nice upgrade airbags or not. Its not like biking/walking on the street on india is any safer.
Also heard on the new due to cost saving some panels and parts on the cars are super glued on

i read in automobile magazine that there is no rear hatch! they did this to reduce production and stamping costs by deleting the hatch entirely... you're supposed to access the rear through the rear doors and drop the rear seatbacks :o

people are defs gonna want this car... However think of the environment $2000 dollers for a car means alot more people will now be able to afford to be on the road, and in all parts of the world!!

Personally, I think it's quite an accomplishment to design a brand new car for under $2000.
O well, if you can buy a new car at 2K and the company still making profit, I wonder how much does other car/bike company made on each car/bike they sell you

does anyone know what their manufacturing process involve? no environmental practices, unskilled min. wage labor? maybe that could be why it's so cheap... but then again it could be all cutting edge robotics and eco-friendly assembly and parts for all i know.

I read somewhere that Bosch has had quite a substantial role in producing/designing the electrical system/sensors in the car, and they're looking to move that part of the production over to India now.
I also read somewhere that some parts on the car are superglued on :/

i'd bus than drive this car.
But I can definitely see the appeal in developing countries. At least it'll be safer than riding a bike. Then again, I doubt safety is a concern in those places where human lives r expendable.

Actually I'd much rather drive this POS than take the bus. Transit in the GVRD sucks ass. This thing is still cheaper than a 50cc scooter and will keep you warm. Just make sure you bring your iPod and some portable speakers with you, haha!

they will be adding a few things to make it legal in NA market
india's auto market is hotter than any other country in the world, and much more room to grow. of course it will cause prob with traffic and poll. but then again they have a right to pollute the world as much as u do. ;)

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if this car polluted LESS per km than most cars in developed countries.
Yes, they did away with welds and used adhesives. Then again, many structural components of BMWs are also glued on, believe it or not. I believe the roof for the 3-series is one of them. Modern glues are surprisingly strong.
I remember my EI buddy once told me he asked his cousin (who lived in India) what his dream car would be if he had unlimited $$$$, and the cousin said it would be a.. *insert drum roll here* Ford Escort. :lol

this is precisely the problem with this car, they are making it so a greater number of people that could never afford a car now can. As one of the biggest countries in the world the environmental impact will be huge let alone the demand for oil going up substantially. I'm curious to see what other problems will arise from this.

^ do you know scooters and other motorcycles do not have catalyze converter, it pollutes our air much worse than a car, and a lot of poorly maintained bikes do not get 50mpg.

Ya but try taking your family anywere on a bike.
The Nano is a lot safer than a scooter and no one in India would rather take the bus than drive a Nano.
I also bet this will be the most customized car in India.

have you ever rode on a bus in india? its scary, the bus seems like its going to fall apart and second. I'd much rather drive this even if it means staying to the left of the road and feel much safer than being with a crazy bus driver.
