Question UBC Academic Probation

Recently two of my friends have been put on academic probation (AP) and only one of them has actually received a letter from UBC stating that they are indeed on AP. Is it mandatory for UBC to send out a letter notifying you once you have been put on AP?

either one of your friends is a borderline case. one is probably in the safe zone, but put on AP. the other better haul some ass this term or get kicked out.

i got AP in my first year, and i didn't get my letter until the summer. from getting only 27% in calculus, i'd say they were probably expecting to kick me out. but i was able to pick up my grades in term 2. so that's why i think they sent the letter out in the summer.

also, it might be different if your friends are in different faculties.

^ i did similar thing last year as well, scoring 35% in calculus.

I got 84% this year on another math course

Ask your faculty ASAP for the average requirment needed without AP.

My faculty is @ 60%

I had that first term disaster in calculus (Math103) five years ago (scored a whopping 23%) by being a total idiot and being too drunk to go to the final, but have picked up the pace tremendously. It's a pretty damn huge blemish though and looking through my transcript it looks really out of place amongst all the B's and A's in the latter years. Very costly mistake for graduate applications.

Just wanted to mention that as I sort of found solace in finally finding others who fucked up the same class...haha

i had 30% and 35% in bot midterms in math 100. first years is just the year that everyone are drunk 80% of the time. I drank till I puke the last day of school before exam so I could stay away from alcohol for couple weeks and busted my ass off to get a 61% in the end lol. I guess I got lucky.

Math department weights your final more if you do "excessively" better than your classroom mark.

...plus scaling

Oh. And I just found out I got 40 in Math 101 . haha anyone gonna be on campus from June to July?

When I registered for 101 (before classes ended) there were only three seats left haha.

i managed to registered myself in both math 101 and 105, still deciding which one is easier to get marks with, will drop one for sure before payment is due

Anyone know if courses taken during mid June till end of July will be counted for average going into the second year?

I am afraid the discipline of my faculty won't accept me for second year me just because I have to retake Math 105 in the summer as I failed it in second semester....I heard something about the deadline for sending all marks in is June 31st?

For engineering, the deadline for marks is June 15th (i.e. first day of summer class). Dunno about the other faculties.

if anyone is wondering, 2nd year engineering math courses should be easier because you would have been trained how to succeed in calculus through first year training.

my second year math marks are better than my first year.
