well since there's a thread for pich and vihl, thought i'd make one for ice604 as well since im bored =P so who's all playing this year?
I'm on a new team called the hotshots, will start in 9 but will probably be at 7 by the end of the year. anyone else?! season starts in 2 weeks!

I doubt Ray would be considered a ringer in Div 4. I'd say he'd fit right in (if he actually plays hard) lol

Well if he's not on our original roster that we submitted and all of a sudden he plays a game for us they might consider him a ringer instead of a sub.

But from what I recall, subs are a norm phenomenon around the league as its a pretty casual league. Lots of teams lose half their roster throughout the season for many reasons: non-payment, change of schedule availability, player no-shows, etc.
So subs aren't really regulated. It's just when ringers (subs with a higher skillset than that of the division) comes in, that's when a team would get called out, and the same with the ringer.
In fact, I think there's a rule regarding subs about Play Off eligibility. For subs to be eligible to sub for a team during playoffs, the said sub must have played at least 6 reg. season games. So as long as one is not a ringer, seems to me that the league is chill with non-roster subs.

I'll be back stopping pucks for the Gherkins and subbing in net for the Pickles since i lost my starter spot last year due to injury and a younger better goalie:(. See you guys out there. And please no snow showers.

I think her team is just shy of making the "We can hardly skate, but for some reason we have a big fan club watching us" Division.
In a couple years, they'll move up to the "Our Jerseys are more Valuable Then Our Hockey Skills" Division.

Played his team last night and he laid a big hit on my teammate in the 2nd period. He tried to deck me with a minute left in the game when it was already 7-4 for my team. It's supposed to be body contact and not checking but I hope he keeps his head up the next time.

i know players on a team in tier 1-2 that i played hockey 5 years in a rec league i used to play in, and that year they just laced on ice skates for the first time. So, if u can evaluate a team of 5 years of experience in hockey which makes up a top level team....then you can probably gauge it from there.

Put it this way. Most of the really good (former jr B and A players) play in Coast or ASHL. Ice Div 1 and 2 players would only be div 3-4 at best in the other leauges.

Being that you've been gone from ice hockey for a while, I'd say go lower tier and work your way up. It's easier to find a team with a chill attitude towards hockey on the lower divs.

What team do you play for?
Herb is really weird with his retiering. I play on Blitz (t4) this season and last, and the winner of our div last year is now in T5. The Nighthawks which we always seem to have trouble with is also a div below. Last season was similar, so all I can say is don't hold your breath regarding proper retiering.
But if you lose ALL your games in blowout fashion I suppose it's a lock to get bumped down.

^ well our 1st game we lost 8-1. we tied coldshots when they only had 3 spares plus most of them were still high from the rave lol we have players that belong in div 9 but becuase we have some players that can pick up the slack,we got put into 4. anyways our captain emailed herb and he said he's retiering after the weekend so hopefully we get bumped down. we're actually playing blitz this sunday lol we're hotshots

Did you try the Ice604 page? They have a messageboard that has a sub-board for teams looking for players and players needing teams. I also hear some Ice604 team organizers use craigslist to advertise roster availability.

#12 is good. He's our team captain. But other than that, our talent depth isn't really too deep. In fact, having 1 or 2 skilled players on a 13 man roster team pretty much defines what a Div 9 team is I think.
#11. Don't mind him. He was cheesed off but he didn't understand that the area in front of the goalie is always an abuse-plenty zone. I vouched for you and he understood come 3rd period. He's not very experienced that's why.

After last night's game, I think it has gotten more conflicting for him.
Sorry Noir, but if I was still on the ice, #17 would have gone down for that cross check he did on you.
As well, I just don't understand how this league can continue to run with such horrible officiating. My favourate quote from the ref's at last night's game "we didn't break up the fights because we don't want to get hurt". :rolleyes:

secondly, if you're playing in, say, div IV, the highest div you can play simultaniously is II and the lowest is VI. makes things fair.
also, getting involved in fights is a refs choice... unless one player is getting seriously outclassed, then its a duty.

Perhaps, but we are talking about a guy who was well over 1 1/2 feet taller than the player he was cross checking. Not one, two, three but 4 cross checks before I had to jump in and pull that guy down. And then I have three of their players pulling on me as the 2 refs stood back and watched with a thumb up their asses.
On top of that, after everything ended, that said giant went after the shorter player a second time, which resulted in me jumping in a second time.
While the whole time players on their bench were mouthing off and when I skated over to challenge them to a fight, all they could do was bitch out and yell "ref, ref...." in a girly voice while pointing at me. :mad:

Depends on the league....usually you can play on two teams in same div as long as come playoff time you declare one as the team you play for. Only female league I know that you cant play at all is Planet Ice Coquitlam. Even for goalies until last year when all teams vouched to let goalies play wherever they wanted.

Many people in beer league forget this is for fun and we're not paid to play. Everybody's got families, jobs, school and other commitments off the ice.
There's guys that take beer league too seriously and think it's the NHL. We played against ICE today; I'm good friends with their goalie and they have a shitty player who thinks he's an agitator.
This isn't the NHL, there is no need for agitators or role players in beer league. Their supposed agitator slew foots me late in the game so I gave him a body check and he hides on the bench. After the game he hides behind his wife and child when I'm trying to get his attention to tell him he's an idiot. I could've slashed him behind the knees and ended his season and kept him off work for a bit but it's just REC HOCKEY and I know better.
It's douche bags who try to start shit who shouldn't be playing. If you're going to do stupid shit, man up to it and don't run away and hide (similar to the situation SumAznGuy referred to.)

I had one of those guys two games ago but it was after he accidentally hit me in the face with his stick and I was dripping blood on the ice.
I also can't stand guys who can't skate and go down as soon as you play the body and you get called on it. It's happened to me a few times this season alone. Body contact is okay...
Yeah, that has happened to me every game I have played. I skate towards the puck and the other player goes for it as well and there's contact. He goes down, drops like a fly and I get a penalty.

in women's hockey the same thing happens and the refs told me because i am bigger than most women and also a better skater you should know how to avoid the noobs.

just wanted to say good game to KBI, pretty fun game tonight.
Though I'm not looking for 2G1P next game. We're playing the Incredibles. Their top 3 forwards have 76 points combine in 11 games!
Just for a season since it was so much more cheaper.

Though I'm not looking for 2G1P next game. We're playing the Incredibles. Their top 3 forwards have 76 points combine in 11 games!
Don't worry, those numbers are slightly inflated because of the 2 games they played against us. haha
But they do have a pretty good goalie.

Sightly? I doubt that. I've played in the other game against Incredibles. Those three guys didn't give a damn bout going end to end and lighting it up. But meh, we might not have our regular goalie anyways, so they'll probably light it up against us.

At the same time, teams like INC could be wayyy too good for T9 but they gonna get their asses kicked up in T8...its a no win situation. Some teams basically are threatening the league they will leave the league if they dont bump a certain team out. But again its a business and its better to lose one team than to lose two (this is the situation with the MTB).
As for the INC, funny thing was in exhibition and first half of the season , they were so so weak of a team.

I watched the first few minutes of their game vs BSB a few weeks back and I was thinking to myself that they do look like a weak team.
Someone posted on the Ice604 forums about them but Herb has a point. They are winning most of their games by only a few goals. So what gives. Are they that good or are we that bad?

They're alright. They're good but they're shut-downable... by 3 out of our 4 defensemans.

Herb is a pushover. We had an off-ice altercation at one of our games this season. I got a one game suspension, my teammate got five games and the guy on the other team was supposed to be gone for the season. He ends up only getting six and on their team's game sheets he played before he was supposed to be eligible to return.

I was just looking through my team's schedule, and i noticed something.....
Herb's point is FALSE. Prior to re-tiering, the INC team's first 3 wins were 7-1, 5-2, 11-3.
How does that justify a business decision based on winning by only a few goals? Like really...i don't give a shit about this division, and as a matter of fact, the league. I'm playing as a part timer because im happy to be playing hockey after injury, and just to check the league out. Regardless, i will always be a fan of good quality hockey, whether its in the highest or lowest tiers, and frankly, nothing is impressing me.

Nice, what team are you gonna be on? Your team will start Div10 for tiering and then you will be placed in the appropiate div. Last yr we got dropped to the lowest Div15(i think) sucked and then pulled it together going into the playoffs and went all the way. I think we may go up 1 div this yr.
I've heard Coast is a terrible league.
It's ok. It won't compare to ASHL but the level of play is decent. It is more physical than ice604, that's for sure.

i would get use to it for the next little bit. CanLan is currently preparing all the rinks for the fire and police games and that means they are dropping the temperature by 3 degrees to fix up the ice to their standards.
on the brightside, Green B's benches no longer is slanted and the B side rinks are no longer slippery and wet behind the nets.

Hm..I was told by 2 different doctors that it would be a max of 2 weeks. Not severe as when I did a partial tear on my right ACL last year. My knee didn't swell up much and wasn't filled with fluid. How's yours?

Maybe urs wasnt as severe as mine. But i also went to 2 doctors, the first said it would last maybe a week 2 at most. the 2nd doctor said it would be 2 weeks max. Then i went to Physio and he said i had to rehab it and it may take alot longer possibly 2 months+ playing the way i play. Cause the next day after the knee on knee i could barely walk. But mine didnt swell either and didnt fill with fluid. After week 2 i went back to play 3 games in 4 days and i was limping again. I can play with no pain but i still cant bend it all the way and i cant squat either. And i also got bursitis in my elbow by slamming into the boards and i twisted my ankle getting tripped. So im playing with 3 injuries right now

Ah. For me I have the full range from straightening to full sqaut, but it hurts doing so and I would have to do it slowly. I limp while walking and right now, my left calf is also hurting (like strain or a minor pull). Not too sure, but I may have injured my calf on the same play. I injured it last Thursday and today I'm not limping as much and I can apply some pressure to my left leg. I can walk up the stairs now without holding onto the railing and just tonight I was able to walk down the stairs normally, without holding onto the rails, albeit slowly though.
Some of my friends are already calling me "Sami Salo". Just cause I play defense and I seemed to be getting injured quite a bit for the past year.
This year, I sprained my left thumb when I lowsided my bike at the track and I bruised my left ankle from blocking a slapshot at point blank. I also bruised my right hand when some guy decided to rock me behind my own net.
So your able to play right now? I can't.

but i have to agree i watched them in exhibition and then the past few games watching/coaching the teams...its a differnet team...they pass very well..and not a single player was considering a newbie skater.
Almost every other team in Tier9 is questioning about INC in the tier..even up in 8 they prolly will do fairly well

I was out all last year when I partially tore my right ACL. I haven't been able to get back to my playing level since. I've struggled with my passing and puck handling all last yr during Coast and same this yr with PICH and VIHL. ACL injuries are the worst to get in sports next to concussions. All anyone can do, assuming you don't do surgery, is to constantly rehab it every week. I go to the gym and do weighted squats and also non-weighted squats on balance boards and do stationary cycle. Whenever I skip the gym I can feel the weakness during games. Work on your surrounding muscle groups to help compensate for the sprains.
I would so kill to have your guys' injuries instead :(

I actually like that SKD team....its a really good bunch of guys to play against. They are ALL good sports, competitive, etc. Its a shame that you can't say that about all the teams....I've just seen to many whining baby teams in this spring league; kinda deterred me to play during the winter.

He He, assuming there is a next year. I heard Herb's contract with Canlan is expiring after this winter or next and ASHL wants to take the ice times to expand their league.
If this is true, it will be 10:30pm games every night for everyone lol.
Plus no way Herb will let these guys be in tier 9 again.
But yeah last game in the dress room we had an interesting discussion of what would happen if 2G1P ended up in the top 4. We were gonna put both our regular goalies as forwards and put Jase the Mase in net. SOLID OFFENSE and Shaddy Goaltending will help use destroy the INC LOL

btw, they are doing ID checks at the game for playoffs. I guess they wanna avoid another Young Guns vs Dill Pickles incident, where YGs got eliminated and found out that Dills had an illegal player and they had to play a rematch. Of course, YGs won, but there was a big brawl after the game.

Well I heard that Incredibles had an illegal player. Funny thing was, the illegal wasn't one of the skilled guys, just a guy who never shows to games :haha:
But yeah i heard several teams got ID. At one point Coach of AVA whipped out his berry to check out KBI's roster

As for last night, we got id'd naturally because there were 3-5 people on the roster including me that the other team hasn't seen before. I'd be challenging the roster myself if i was in that situation.
As for #7 on our team, that guy is a fuckin douche. He's like a woman hockey player that plays during her period. And that #10 on our team is an idiot too. Guy falls over his own feet, nobody around him, and he bitches to the referree, 'what the fuck was that?'

they mainly did it because they thought KBI was a bang corp team, and we know what bang does about his roster throughout the season ;)
hey also tell tosh to make sure jersey numbers match the player name. Almost had a problem with a guy in a grey jersey (56), jersey number didn't match any player on the roster. To make it worse 56 scored the GWG and they could have cried ringer. It was fine this time because one of the refs' knew 56 was a dude named Ray E. (who was 26 on the roster).

and dang it took game three and a shoot out to get it done.
Honestly the game could have gone either way.
BSB got lucky when at the end of OT, Mark (their ringer) got a penalty and was not allowed to be a shooter. SKD in a way got unlucky :(

I played minor hockey for 15 years with 8 of those years being at a AA rep level as a Forward and have been both a Captain and Assistant Captain on my team.
I haven't played for a couple of years and i'm looking to get back into it.

My team might still be looking for people for the winter season but we're giving priority to d-men. We're playing Div 3 right now (still in playoffs) and the majority of our team have only played house back in minor so I'm not sure if our calibre of play might be too low for you.

I definitely don't think the calibre of play would be too low for you. Like I mentioned, I haven't been on the ice in like 3 years so I definitely won't be at the level I was once at. Just looking for a intermediate level with some good hockey and to mostly have fun.. But yeah if you have anymore room for a Forward, I have a cheque in hand waiting to play. So lemme know..

I dunno....i haven't even played a full season with this league....and i definitely know, this will be my last. But if you're really looking to get into a team, you should screen to see if you're gonna fit in personality-wise. If you got that much experience, im certain you're gonna hate playing with or against a whole bunch of whining babies. I can vouch for Mickz' group....they are fast bunch with a competitive nature. I had lots of fun playing with them......yet their opponents were too incompetent to change their own diapers.

Thanks for the input RayBot. I just wanna play again and I haven't ever played in anything other than minor hockey so I'm not too familiar with the leagues. I'm a pretty easy going person and get along with people easily and as for experience, like I said I haven't played in a while so I have a feeling it's going to take me quite a while to get back into the swing of things..
If you don't mind me asking, what league are you looking to join next if not ICE604??

Man that was all BS at the end of that game when Mark got the penalty and how neil was penalized!! They should've been allowed in the shootout anyways. I'm not bitching about it but the refs in that game are pretty biased against us

I know exactly how you feel. I swear, some of the refs in this league do make biased calls. That or they put their whistles away after the puck drops.
But I've done enough complaining and nothing is gonna change. Either learn to live with it, or play in another league. Mind you, I thought Steve Darling was one of the better ref's I had all year.

Actually...just to correct you....
The issues that i seemed to have witnessed were from playing in div 3,4, and 5.
As for tier 9, i dunno....i actually haven't had any issues with players/teams T9. Actually, i seem to get along with a LOT of players in that division. Hell, we even went for dinner with people from the other team after our team got completely spanked!! Keroleen will prolly even vouch....i have more problems with a few of my own teammates rather than people on the other team; but its more their problem than my problem really.
But as for the higher divisions on where i want to be playing after i fully recover from injury....its not something i have been sold with. If i am content playing in the lowest division for the next couple years, sure why not....met a lot of GREAT people in that div. But thats not a division i want to be in long term.

I still prefer ASHL over ICE604. I'd have good battles in front of my net with the opposing forwards and as soon as the play went the other way, we followed. In ICE604 when I moved guys in front of my own net they'd bitch and complain. Don't like it, don't stand in front of my net. Might be just me but there's more "tough guys" wearing full cages who do nothing but talk in ICE604 compared to ASHL.
I'm playing half the winter season this year and I don't think I'll be back after that.
There's also the fact that there's alot of teams that suck dick to get their way. The decisions in this league are heavily favored towards whoever Herb knows. We're pulling out of this league after the Winter season.
