Okay, I have a Acer One D150.

I've followed instructions given by http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=4900 (it might not load, I think it's down for some odd reason, it worked okay before). Essentially what it tells me to do is download USB_Multiboot_10.

Do all that jazz and I should have a USB with a bootable and streamlined version of XP SP3.

I go into install the shit on the Asus. When it comes up to the XP screen that asks you which partition you want to install it on....the only partiion that is available is my USB. For some reason it doesn't recognize the hard drive in the comp? I'm not sure where I fucked up but the Asus won't boot up to it's original XP now either. Does this mean I need to manually partition the hard drive via DOS or some kinda command prompt? I tried googling this but I didn't seem to have much luck.


Am I fucked or what? God damn.

i always hated using usb stick.

if you need a usb dvd drive let me know i think i got one lying around

Use WinSetupFromUSB_0-2-1 instead

why are you installing xp sp3 when the laptop has xp in it already? can't you just do a windows update to get sp3?

you're netbook probably only has one primary slave controller, and the usb thats being booted off is getting recognized as primary. if you had an external cd drive then it should be ok.

maybe try setting the secondary to your hd in bios

Perhaps the HD needs drivers to be recognized in Windows Setup?

Thanks guys, I'll take up the suggestions right after I finish my exams. I got it to boot up to it's original state using the WinSetup, but I gotta boot it off my USB. If anyone has more suggestions, keep them coming, but if all else fails, I might take you up on your offer, Jarry..or was it Jerry? Or is it even Jerry? I don't remember no more. Haha.

Hmm I just used this exact method on 2 different netbooks. No problems. Is your disk an XP Pro SP3? And when booting I'm assuming you chose #1 option on the startup menu after booting off usb?

How do you set one in BIOs? I've combed through the options, but I don't see anything?

Actually, if anyone can tell me how to change it so that the USB is partition 1, I think that will solve the problem..?

Here's what I get when I boot up from USB:

When I choose HD 0 part 2, I boot up to the original stuff on the drive.

Everything else gives me the hall.dll error.

does the 1st part of install not format ur drives, how could u access the contents

^I'm about as confused as you are. I ran the recovery s/w that came with the comp (after I booted it up) and now that computer can boot up w/o USB to it's original state. I'm dumbfounded as fuck.

Okay, with a separate method (Multiboot), I can get to this screen, but the only partition it shows me is the one on my USB. How do I make it to show the HD?

try turning turning AHCI to compatibility mode (in SATA settings) in the BIOS before you install. if that works, then i would suggest slipstreaming your AHCI drivers to your xp install so you don't need to leave it on compatibility mode.
