looking for a RC car as a gift for my cousin's birthday. He always wanted those tamiya type things 4WD with ground clearance (off-road)
something like this

Try Magic Box Hobbies on Arbutus and 37th by the 7/11. They usually have some RC stuff.

Both places mentioned above when I went had, high prices, shit service. I go to either Golden Horizon Hobbies or Team1Hobbies in New West. I'm not into RC anymore but if you're looking for a new monster truck those will run you around $400+ for nitro at least
if its for like a younger person, then places like toys r us.
if its for an older person, that cares more for build quality and detail, then ur looking at the tamiya type RC cars. they can get costly.

+1, the people who are into the "costly" ones, a lot find half the fun in building them, the other half in driving.

$200 honestly won't get you far.

Those prices are considered cheap, then factor in shipping, conversion, etc. If I were you maybe buy him a giftcard to amainhobbies?

$200 isn't going to get you anything, so if that's really your budget, try Radioshack or ToysRUs. RC's are hella expensive. I was into them for 3yrs or so, I still have a stock pile of old misc parts and cars/truck. Else see if you can get him a $200 giftcard at a RC shop.
