: URGENT HELP! my Sony TV just died

so, turned it on and BAM, a quarter strip went psycho bright.
i talk to the sales rep from the sony store, he asked me to go to MTC Centre @ coquitlam.

should i still call the support centre? i don't really want to deal with those ppl on the phone.

i bought it last august, so it's still under factory warranty.

do they come to my house and fix it? or do i have to haul it all the way there? it's 46" so it's not exactly easy.

experience?? suggestions?? advice??
i have never had this happen before.. even my $900 crappy 32" lcd lasted 3 years no problem, fuck

For my Hitachi they came to my house and fixed it in house with factory warranty. Hitachi had a bunch of companies they use to fix there products, you call one of them and set up an appointment. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing Sony probably works in a similar way?

from the looks of the defect, i probably require a new lcd panel.

what kind of problems did you have with your TV and how long did they take to fix it?

If it is still under factory warranty, I don't know what you're worrying about.

Give Sony a call and figure it out from there.

Simple as pie.

did you get the sony care thingy?

for say if you got it from fs/bb u get their psp they will come to your house
if you got it from sony store and added the warranty it would of been the same

however if its just under normal warranty you might have to give it to them @ coquitlum

You will have to call Sony. They will probably ask you some basic questions and maybe have you try a few things. If they need to, they can send someone out to repair it.

i didn't buy any extensive warranty because best buy wanted about $600 for one year or $1000 for like 3 years, which i thought was a rip off.

didn't buy sony care as well because i never heard of sony TVs being not reliable.

i am going to call MTC Centre tomorrow morning and see what they say.
i have the receipt ready and it was purchased in August 2008, so factory warranty is still valid.

i got the TV at Bestbuy Burnaby. they don't do, and won't do anything for me.

i am annoyed and worried because i didn't expect a $2500-3000 top series Sony TV will die on me like that. i don't even use it that often! probably like.. 3 hours of normal cable use everyday!

maybe you just got unlucky.. afterall, there's always those one or two bad apples in a crate full

I've been abusing this top end sony vaio for neary 2 years, and i have yet found any problems except for the battery life is starting to die from 5.5hr to 4hr max, but that's normal.

One of my worst fears with my beloved new Sony tv. Try Calling Sony Canada. They are located in Coquitlam and I believe that is also a service centre.

Also, if you bought it using a mastercard or visa, check to see if your card provides any type of extended warranty

Don't take back stuff to the store, unless it's for a refund/exchange. They aren't a warranty center, and you're just wasting your time.

It's been less than a year, so you shouldn't have a problem getting it fixed/replaced.

O.T but blue jays are ripping it up this year lol

called and booked an appointment today with the repair guys
i have to take a day off so that my lovely TV will get fixed.. grr..

can i get extended warranty now? =p
i'm afraid i got a lemon and this problem will come back again.................. =(

^ if you bought it on a visa, more likely than not, it will have an additional year of warranty on top.

HAHA...you're focked...My sony crapped out on me too...just because you get it repaired means nothing...the problem will come back...Im speaking from experience...one of my green lazers crapped out...cost $1000 to repair...year later..it crapped out still.

Ask for a new tv if possible...or make sure they extend the warranty on it.

BTW...FUUUUUUUU Sony...your a POS company now...your overpriced brand is slowly being tarnished because of your crap quality.

It might just be a loose connector. But if it's under factory warranty, might as well call the # in your manual. Good luck.

PS your older LCD ONLY lasted 3 years? wtf? Do LCDs suck that badly? (I'm still in the CRT age)

UPDATE:

wasted a whole day and took a day off work on Tuesday to wait for the repair guy to come in. He literally smacked my TV twice, and left within 2 minutes.

he just said, i need to wait for the parts to come in, it will be 5-10 business days. Apparently, i am getting A WHOE NEW LCD PANEL and he will install it in my house. what if it's not the LCD's fault, and it's just that the wiring is fucked up which causes the LCD to fuck up? then what?

What should i be aware of now? should i just complain and ask Sony for a new TV???

tv still not fixed yet, and impatiently waiting for his call =(

UPDATE: THIS IS THE MOST FUCKING RIDICULOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE I HAVE EXPERIENCED

so, i called up MTC centre about my repair status and parts order because it has been 8 business days. called them up, and MTC Centre in Ontario told me that the Coquitlam store has SHUT DOWN. I was like WHAT THE FUCK??? i didn't think of bitching at them at that moment because I was quite shocked, they referred me to a place called "Electro Magic".

Called up Electro Magic, I told them that a tech from MTC has came to my place and said the TV will need a new LCD panel, but the new guys were like.. oh, we need to get one of our techs to check it out first, because there could be other problems and we will go from there. k, fine... but WTF

After 5 minutes of shock, I got really pissed off at MTC and sony because their so called "authorized repair centres" just folded all of a sudden and NO ONE NO ONE has ever called me informing me about this, my part of couse, was never ORDERED.

i called up sony and told them that i am pissed off and find this very very dissapointing. how am are they going to expect me to buy another fucking sony product EVER AGAIN?

so here are the problems and issues
1. what if i fucking give MTC my television, i would have lost my fucking TV!
2. how can NO ONE ever inform me that they are about to close, or they have went under
3. i called april 16th, tech came in april 21, MTC folded April 22! like WHAT THE FUCK!
4. i told sony canada about my story and they said "probably MTC was very angry, so they didn't care about their customers" - WTF? MTC is SONY'S authorized repair guys! they have their logos all over their website!
5. i wasted a day worth of wages, and on monday i am going to waste ANOTHER DAY OF WAGES. that totals to about $200 in damage in my lost working hours.
6. i don't have a TV for the NHL and NBA playoffs!

WHAT SHOULD I FUCKING DO?
how do i fucking bitch to the maxors so that they will replace a new TV for me?
i am going to call again if the tech dude doesn't show up on monday. even if they fixes it, i am going to ask for 4 years extended warranty FREE, because i got a fucking SONY LEMON.

TOP OF THE LINE Z-Series LEMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

advice? i am still fucking pissed and annoyed at these assholes

"Authorized" usually just means they use OEM parts, and some guys may receive Sony factory training.

If it makes you feel better, Electromagic is legit. I used their services 7 years ago, so if they're still around, it's a good sign ;)

The other option is you can repair the TV AFTER the playoffs.

You paid so much because it is a better brand and has better spec compared to other
models. It's not you pay x2 more and your TV will last x2 longer.

I got a XBR2 46" two years ago got a 4 year warranty with it. It recently died on me and 2 weeks later I got a 46" XBR 7 at no additional cost. In my eyes I really don't see why people don't buy warranty. But thats just me.

but in all that's shitty to hear man I know a guy who has a w-series with the same thing.

I bought 3 years, on my 60GB ps3, and rightfully so, as there are no more with the emotion engine to emulate ps2's. However, my XBRII, i could give a crap less about XD

FINALLY

it's fixed.
the replaced the whole LCD panel and the one of the electrical boards.

I plan to call up Sony and ask for free extended warranty because I don't know if it's going to fuck up again shortly after. then, my 1 year warranty will be done and i will be fucked with a piece of garbage.

How should i approach them? what would make my case stronger? is it even possible?

my crappy Maxent plasma from Futureshop did the exact same thing last week. But the weird thing is 2 days later it "cured" itself and it no longer does it
