that's retarded, cutting down on the MINOR use of electricity that are TV's is not being green.

I'll stick with my 80" DLP...

I love taking advantage of their Pricematching to make up for the times they ripped people off. making their employees miserable makes me happy :)

1. speakers don't produce power.
2 that's not 1000 watts RMS it's probable less than 200 watts rms.

you guys are missing the point.

I bet the 1000W speakers themselves are painted green.

Your missing the point. The power handling of a speaker has nothing to do with how green they are. They could be made from 100% recycled metal and a hemp paper cone.

hated this too, they tried to make a company culture out of something thats really random. so many customers gave this "" look when we did it.

Besides the rating, it's probably how much the system draws on standby. For many people, their devices use almost as much juice in total on standby than when they're actually watching some movie. I thought I read somewhere that many devices now draw as much as 5W EACH even when "off". They're trying to change the regulations to get it below 1W for the next generation.

Like buddy said over there, it's probably 1000W peak, ie for a split second. NO home speaker out there even goes past 300W RMS (most don't even do 100W per speaker), it'd blast out your eardrums long before that point. It's marketing, just like HP ratings.

OP, you have way too much free time ;)

Nah I'm just trying to find reason not to study. it bores me to death.

I noticed the energy star logo. but that logo is almost on any product you buy, (my monitor from 1995 had a huge energy star logo when it booted up). I just think it's funny marketing to say "go green with energy star 1000W speaker.

It would be much effective to get the message across to say something like: "Go green with the more efficent, energy star certified home theather system at an amazing low price!"

RMS power or not, 1000W just doesn't look good to promote sustainability.

Peak power ratings are meaningless.

The two important numbers when shopping for stereos are:

1) RMS power
2) Total Harmonic Distortion.

A stereo putting out 500W RMS with 1% THD is going to sound a hell of a lot worse than a stereo putting out 100W RMS with 0.01% THD.

that and the S/N ratio that the source puts out.

I love how all those people buy those "TV + speaker" bundles, and the box they're carrying says something stupid like 11% THD on the side. (Panasonic comes to mind) At that rate you might as well buy your Hi-fi equipment from one of those white vans and get better quality.

The home theaters in a box aren't bad for non-audiophiles or those who will never turn up the volume very high.

But when those people say things like "My system is more powerful than your system, I have 1000 watts and you only have 300" then I laugh at them.
