Upwards of 2,000 people gathered to celebrate the Canucks victory

SURREY/DELTA (NEWS1130) - A Surrey RCMP officer received a broken leg Tuesday night after upwards of 2,000 people gathered to celebrate the Canucks victory over the St. Louis Blues on the Surrey/Delta border.

Mike called News1130 to say he saw the officer being taken away by ambulance. “There was like six or seven guys who pretty much attacked the officer as he was approaching them. And they kind of punched him and that's how he got hurt.”

Police say one person was taken into custody and despite this incident on 72nd Ave and Scott Rd. most of the people on hand did behave.

No man. It was so tame in comparison to the VAN vs. DAL series.

Probably because last night was an away game and it ended 7 or 8 Vancouver time which would mean less people drunk compared to had it finished 10ish.

It just takes a handful of idiots to ruin it for everyone. Not that I'd ever go to any of these huge gatherings but when people are doing shit like attacking the cops thats when they need to bust out the tazers and blast them until their hearts stops, revive them and then electrocute them again.

Fun is fun, but don't be stupid.

Tear gas should be on-hand and police should be prepared to deploy it.

And yet the people of Vancouver are worried about the fans of MMA events getting out of hand. Interesting.

Downtown community groups are currently lobbying the Vancouver gov't to do something about the huge influx of people from the suburbs during Canucks games and other events (i.e. fireworks). The thing is, these hoards are not only disruptive and disrespectful to the surrounding residents but also leave huge, multi-million-dollar clean up and security (to pay for additional police) bills for the residents of Vancouver every time one of these events takes place.

I am not sure what the city council can do but imo, I think they should build/move a new sports stadium (for Canucks, BC Lions) in Surrey or wherever since most of the attendees are from these area's anyways.

Ya, because Vancouverites pickup all there garbage and are nothing but respectful at these same event.......

I'm not suggesting there aren't idiots in the burbs because there everywhere but seriously get off your high horse and get over yourself. You're no better then anyone that lives east, west, north or south of the bridge. We get it, you hate Surrey and to be honest it's not my favorite place either but your holier then thou attitude is ridiculous.

We will eventually move to a system of gated communities like the ones I saw in Costa Rica.

This will help seperate the educated haves, from the uneducated, barbaric have-nots.
