A 30-year-old man caught having sex on the hood of a BMW Wednesday night was arrested after transit cops found he had a gun in his pocket.

Mohammed Shakil Khan likely wasn't happy to see the transit officers, especially after they found out he was prohibited for life from carrying firearms.

The transit cops were patrolling between Nanaimo and 29th Avenue stations on bicycle when they found the pair engaged in sexual activity in the 2600 block of Vanness Avenue.

Suspicious about the man's hand movements, the officers searched him and found a .22-calibre revolver.

Khan, is well known to police and was under a lifetime prohibition from possessing firearms, transit police spokesman Tom Seaman said.

He was charged with six firearms charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowingly possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence, possessing a prohibited weapon with ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon, careless use of a firearm and possessing a firearm contrary to a court order.

The woman was released at the scene.
