VANCOUVER — Three people are in hospital after a dramatic explosion and fire at a four-storey apartment building Wednesday.
Police are treating the blast at 2272 Dundas Street, near Garden Ave., as a crime scene and the centre of a criminal investigation.
The explosion occurred at about 5 p.m., setting a unit on the third storey on fire and evacuating residents from the building.
The three residents of the suite were sent to hospital with "undetermined injuries," according to VPD Const. Lindsey Houghton.
About 30 Vancouver firefighters had the two-alarm blaze under control by about 7:30 p.m.
The fire damaged the suite and caused "significant structural damage" to the rear of the building, according to Vancouver Fire Services Capt. Gabe Roder.
