i just noticed, the last few days i could DL bittorrent at up to 600KB AND still surf the net. at the beginning of this year my torrents would cause my connection to be non existant (internet) while i would be downloading.

seems back to normal. anyone else notice?

I dont think throttling or not wouldn't make adifference at all if all torrent traffic was encrypted?

I always have encryption enabled.. Never had a problem. Fastest I've gotten downloading torrents was 1.8MB/s and no problems surfing.

it's quite random i find. i've had times when 1 torrent on would halt my web browsing, and sometimes i can have 20 torrents totalling 1.0mb/sec and still open up engadget in a snap.

as far as i know, shaw has never throttled connections due to p2p or torrenting. you're now able to dl 600kb/s and browse because they've upped everyone's speed.

I never had encryption enabled and I've never had slow speeds ever.
With that said, I read somewhere (or here on RS) that Shaw does not throttle Bittorrent, not sure if they ever did.

The main problem is the number of connections your wifi router can handle. reduce the number of maximum connections allowed on Utorrent to 50. According to Shaw they have never throttled bit torrents.

I believe the throttling has always been for UPLOADING. Not downloading. As long as you've limited your upload rate you're good to go.

i noticed the same thing yesterday turbo

and yes, mine use to substantially slow down with downloading only

Shaw increased everyone's DL by 50% recently (they even advertised it on TV). i.e. if you are on High Speed, you go from 5Mb to 7.5Mb down, extreme's 10 becomes 15, etc.

And yeah they've never throttled torrenting. I've got 5 (now 7.5) downstream and was able to reach >600kb/s on well seeded torrents, which coincides with the 5Mb down. Now I've seen a max of 1.4Mb/s down on a well seeded torrent.

I think Shaw increased everyone's bill by $1 or so, at least that's what I've read.
So the speed increase comes with a price.
