I think I versed my statement poorly and people may have missed my point. I was saying that despite the laws outlined in under the Employment Act, they're not exactly rules that are enforced anyways. Hence the "only a guideline" statement.

i worked at cactus, as a cook in kelowna, with 4 year experience and an apprenticeship under my belt from fine dining restaraunts in the interior (i needed the job, moved to a new town lol) and it was a very difficult adjustment for me, i knew more about food than the people running the place, but i had enough sense to not correct them, it was a very much our way and only our way kind of place, i can see where molding newbs rather than experienced people would be preferable

Well for starters, if a place asks you to submit your resume along with a photo of yourself... that could be a hint. Still, that's not any solid proof, but you'll have to be at least suspicious.
