Any recommendations on a good shop to source and install a new engine in a 96-98 tercel?

why would you bother?

If the engine is hosed, those cars are worth like $1k at most (most of them have been pretty beaten).

I'd look into getting a new car?

as for sourcing the engine: try wreckers, lots of cars with huge rear end damage like tercels being written off.
