: Places in GVRD where drivers often do stupid things and piss me off

It's Friday, and instead of doing work, I will bitch.

Don't know how else better to say it than in the title... These are certain places in Vancouver where people routinely act like idiots who don't know how to drive and it pisses me off...

The descriptions may not be clear just by reading, but if you've been to these places and experienced idiot drivers doing this, you'll know what I mean... here are some:

Southbound at Garden City and Alderbridge [link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=richmond+bc&sll=49.263588,-123.138565&sspn=0.328448,0.310364&ie=UTF8&ll=49.177765,-123.124568&spn=0.001285,0.002232&t=h&z=19)]:
People who don't lane-change to the right in the broken-line, but instead change-lanes LATE where the line is solid.

Offramp on Sea Island going to Arthur Lang Bridge from Richmond [link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=richmond+bc&sll=49.263588,-123.138565&sspn=0.328448,0.310364&ie=UTF8&ll=49.192488,-123.141538&spn=0.001285,0.002232&t=h&z=19)]:
People who fucking don't line up in the single right lane before it branches out to two lanes, but instead takes the left lane (that goes into the bus loop) and then cuts in front of everybody back into the lane.

Merging of lanes before going Northbound on Arthur Lang Bridge [link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=richmond+bc&sll=49.263588,-123.138565&sspn=0.328448,0.310364&ie=UTF8&ll=49.194574,-123.141106&spn=0.001285,0.002232&t=h&z=19)]:
Applies to a lot of highway-merging instances, but pretty much people who don't understand how merging works and tries to either (a) squeeze so that two cars merge into one spot, or (b) acts like a douche and gives no space for the person to merge in front of you. THIS SLOWS EVERYBODY DOWN.

Add your own...

Dumb ass kids that street race on the Sea to Sky highway and cut everyone off when it merges into single lanes.

Retarded kids doing donut burnouts in Tim Horton's parking lots at night when I'm trying to park closer to get my fucking donuts and they're oblivious to me and keep donutting (sp?)

Anyone who doesn't merge uniformly going onto any bridge and tries to cut the line, especially going onto the Lions Gate Bridge going to Vancouver.

People that speed up when you're trying to merge in. Give me a fucking break, if you're going to drive with 2 car length spaces ahead of you and I signal ahead of time and slowly make my way over to your lane, why the fuck would you speed up? I know that 2 extra seconds saved of commute time might make the difference between life or death, but seriously, don't leave such a huge gap in front of you if you're going to cut me off when I try to occupy it. You're just going to feel like a dumbass when I roll up next to you at a stop light, or pass you when your stupid ass gets stuck behind a left turner.

Don't forget the gold Corollas with an "N" on the back, going 55kmh down the left lane of 200st, at 8 in the morning. Ethnic roadblock?

Rupert and 1st Avenue.
When u go north and turn right onto 1st avenue. People never follow their lanes. The rightmost lane always turn into the middle lane. I always take the middle lane & turn into the middle lane. So close to getting hitting many many times.

Stupid people, the lanes r there for a reason.

And I hate how ppl make a turn at 40km/hr in small streets. i mean these streets r narrow, and cars r parked on the side. There's no room for u to turn. U'll either run into the parked hard or head on w/ me. Slow the f down.

ABERDEEN AND CRYSTAL MALL PARKING LOTS
SHIT!!

True that... one of my facebook rants from 2 years ago:

Holy shit, so I just got back from lunch at Aberdeen. As I was leaving the parking lot, there was a HUGE jam coz some BITCH can't park, and was too STUBBORN to find another fucking parking spot!

http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v64/9/122/116202530/n116202530_30509453_8132.jpg

So everybody's honking at her, and the traffic coordinator comes, and tells her to move and find another spot! She fucking refuses to even though she is holding up EVERYBODY, so then the coordinator decides to help her park to get her out of the way.

So the bitch finally parks, but she has no way of getting out through the driver side door coz its too close to the wall! She scrambles over to the passenger side and gets out. The whole while people are giving her dirty looks and shit, and she acts all bitchy like she didn't do anything wrong.

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v64/9/122/116202530/n116202530_30509482_4613.jpg

Indeed, very nice drawing. Should have threw in some bmw and benz. But back to the topic, Chinese malls are often horrible partly because they use the same designs in H.K were cars are a lot smaller.

Crystal Mall is the absolute worst.

Artur Laing southbound where lanes separate for airport and richmond.

People love to merge over the solid white lines into Richmond from the lane that leads to the airport.

The right turn from Miller road onto Russ Baker heading north to Artur Laing.

There's clearly a no right turn on a red light sign, yet most disregard and turn into heavy traffic.

Richmond driver dies after crash into Fraser River

Emergency crews on the Fraser River recover a car in which a Richmond man died Thursday night. Emergency crews on the Fraser River recover a car in which a Richmond man died Thursday night. (CBC)

A 70-year-old Richmond, B.C., man is dead after his vehicle plunged into the Fraser River just before midnight Thursday.

Police, ambulance and coast guard crews were called to the scene near the intersection of Number One Road and River Road in Richmond after someone spotted the vehicle in the river,

"We were able to extract one male from the vehicle, he was brought to shore and pronounced dead at the scene," said Sgt. Al Ramey.

The vehicle was pulled from the water using a hovercraft equipped with a crane. The coast guard searched the river for other people who may have been in the car, but nobody else was discovered.

The man's identity has not been released, and investigators are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Highway 1 onramp at Boundary. Man alive I want to beat people to within an inch of their lives everyday. No one moves out of the way, the on ramp from Grandview dumps an assload of traffic onto the highway then some little bitch decides to speed up down the outside lane so you can't change lanes to make things just a little safer.

-1 for crystal mall, how they could design a car parks that go in a circle? it makes blind spots everywhere, your car stall is super small at the front and wide at the back. Plus getting to a lower level is only one car at a time. Friend of mine busted his window and scratch his car trying to turn onto the ramp and he hit the railing.

64th Avenue in Surrey, people always zooming down doing 90-100km/h in a 60 zone. Also hate how assholes like to tailgate in rush hour and make 5 or 6 lane changes to get 2 cars ahead. Its like they don't understand the concept of traffic, that if there are 10 cars ahead of me, that I can't speed up.

Well... here's the most frustrating part to the route I take to work:

I take Hazelbridge Way from Alderbridge, and there are constantly left-turners holding up traffic who signal at the last minute, turning into parker place! What bothers me even more is that there are those who gets stuck behind the left turners that change into the right lane without shoulder checking! Then when I make a left turn on Browngate, there are ALWAYS right turners who turn too wide into my lane! Not to mention EVERYONE jaywalks as if there are no cars and even if they see a car comming, they just take their time... oh BTW, did I mention those who right turn into Aberdeen centre from Browngate ALWAYS make a wide right turn and cuts into the left lane?

Knight St heading northbound.
Just past 57th (Chevron and Petro), there is a little swurve you have to make.
There are three lanes on Knight, and I am in the middle lane, every fucking time, at least 8/10 drivers on the left would drive past the white dotted line, into the middle lane and WILL hit my car if I had not slowed down.

Funny thing is this doesn't happen when drivers are heading southbound to Richmond.

Earlier today, i dropped by save-on and on my way out from the parking lot, there was this chinese lady with her daughter walking from the parking lot and into save-on. The problem was, they were taking an obnoxiously diagonal path which prolonged my wait for them to get across. She was also giving me a dirty look as if i shouldn't even be going through there at all. Stupid bitch. Your daughter's ugly too.

Douchebag this morning in a black Chrysler 300 at going northbound at Granville and 70th, turning Left onto 70th. Left turn signal was solid amber, he turns wide, I'm thinking "OK this dick's just gonna turn right into the right lane".

WRONG. He decides at the last minute to do a U-turn, I almost ended up T-boning him, and the guy behind me rear-ending me coz the fucking left-turn signal was off and traffic was coming in the other way!

I don't know if this has to do with this topic, but I almost got ticketed because I made a right turn during a red in Washington, when there was a sign stating that I could not turn on a red. Very lucky that the issuing officer just gave me a lecture on why we shouldn't turn right on a red, and even cracked a joke about Canadians :O

I got ticketed for exactly this a few weeks back, northbound turning eastbound on Victoria onto Broadway; had no idea about the sign there.

Cop was just sitting there waiting for people to do this, about 6 meters from the corner.

Cop wasn't a dick though, realized I didn't see the sign. Still gave me a ticket, albeit not for the full 'illegal turn on red' or whatever.

Fast lane is fast lane.

People who drive in the fast lane at the speed limit saying "I'm driving as fast as is legally allowed" should be ticketed just as if not more agressively than road ragers, because a HUGE amount of road rage is created by self-righteous or oblivious drivers.

Qmx323
05-13-2009, 12:49 PM
People that get mad because other drivers driving at the speed limit in the left lane are as self-righteous as people who drive the limit, no? Granted it says slower traffic stay left, but that doesn't mean "If you're 80 on a 80 please stay right and going 110 in a 80 please stay left". The passing lane is there to pass slower traffic without breaking the speed limit (lawfully speaking). The point I'm trying to argue I guess is that when people get road rage, they are as self righteous as the people who drive "in the fast lane at the speed limit".

I guess I'm just mad because my car can't go fast so I have to stay in the right lane :(

But everyone i see wont wait for the light to turn green at that intersection, they usually turn right when its safe. Here are a few things I witnessed during my one day trip yesterday for a wedding;

-Doing 50/km in the right lane and another driver sitting in the left doing doing the same speed on the highway
-Braking on the highway for no reason
-Counted number of drivers cutting or not given a signal on the highway
-Motorcyclist hogging up the lanes and not doing the speed limit.
-Tailgating from 50+ year old drivers

another place to add onto the list of crappy parking lots

Richmond Public Market, at the bottom going up, that stupid corner where EVERYBODY takes it wide. People also tail you in that lot so there's no space to ease off to let the other person go.

I hate those people that take the corners wide (I know those who drive in RPM, Aberdeen and Crystal mall understand). They're the reason why there are ALWAYS gridlocks in the lot. People don't know how to back off a little.

Living by Main st my entire life and driving on Main for years I gotta say Main St as a whole is just fucking brutal. This applies north and southbound. For whatever reason these fuckers always drive 50 and sometimes 40's and i'm talking about douchebags in the left and right lane. Sometimes it takes quite a while before you even see a slight opportunity to cut somebody off and get at least some day light.

any street that has a 4 door corolla on it.

Fuck corolla drivers and their white gloves too.

There are reasons why C-lai's drive big ML/GL/X5/Cayenne's, ground clearance! No median is going to stop them from getting into (Insert asian mall here) by violating a million traffic regulations at once.

You know, I actually find Burnaby MUCH worse than Richmond.
I commute From Vancouver, to Richmond, To Burnaby, and back to Vancouver.
And Burnaby sucks.

you need to spend more time in Richmond.

intersection of hazelbridge and alderbeidge
specifically exiting lansdown center, there are 2 lanes
the left lane is dedicated to left turners only but is only painted on the surface of the road
the right lane is for straight through and right turn only.
guess what, people line up in the left lane to go straight while people in the right lane thinking they're clear to go straight through since the left lane is for left turners only.
now u see 2 cars from 2 lanes trying to fight into 1 lane.

surprisingly, i've seen this happen like many many many gazillion times yet there hasnt been any accidents.

HAHA, I always see that too. And on Hazelbridge when people try to come out of Parker Place and that plaza beside it (where Hon's is), they drive their car so out that they're past the line so you either have to stop to let them out or go to the left lane so you don't ram into them.

COMING UP THE HILL ON 20th AVE AFTER YOU COME OFF THE BRIDGE

the left lane is a left turning lane and people race ahead to merge in... today's the second time somebody signalled and started merging beside me... this guy today forced his way in and we were an inch from hitting i had to floor my brake to avoid injury... came up and mouthed him off but he only stared at me and pretended nothing happened...

gray VW, ugly ass... the next time i see him i'm going to cripple his leg.. then his face... CrippleFaceTron!

Oh, reminds me of one:

Marine Way southbound merging into SW Marine drive.

Do people realize there's a stop light there? Why the fuck are you honking at me when clearly the light is red? Assholes. Is there a sign saying "no right turn on red" there? I'm lost.

Any parking lot where the drivers only seem to know how to park by backing into the stalls. What's wrong with that? Ass-parking FTW. Just gotta be able to do it quickly. I see tons of people who park head-first and leave their vehicles with one wheel on/very close to a line, or even worse, a wheel in the adjacent spot. In fact, I'd imagine that most scrapes you see on people's bumpers are the result of parking next to some careless fool who turned headfirst into his/her spot too soon. My car included.

the best is when white people make mistakes. they always seem to think they're better than average, so when the cut off an asian guy, or do something wrong to an asian driver, they somehow think they're OK, since asians are stereotyped to be bad drivers.

a white guy in a truck almost hit my car, then proceeds to yell at ME when clearly he would've been 100% at fault. i was full of wtf

White drivers suck too. Anyone who drives the fraser canyon behind an RV with Alberta plates can attest to.

Is there a sign saying "no right turn on red" there? I'm lost.

I've always played it safe and assumed it's not considered a right turn. Perhaps I'll ask in the police forum just to get a concise answer once and for all.

i've seen the exact same thing happen at the metrotown underground parking lot. the car was lodged up and the couple were unable to move it and had to get help. i've also seen a dude in his 20's slam his SUV into one of those concrete supports in that parking lot and had to get help lol.

every morning on hwy 1 east bound, i see people cruising at 80-90k in the passing lane with the right side lane completely wide open. d'oh!

Its because they are invincible when they drive northbound. There's a manhole cover that's kinda loose and makes a sound when you drive over it. If you hit it just right, it makes you and your car invincible just like the glowing red/yellow star from Super Mario for about 15 seconds.

The southbound lane does not have such a manhole.
I thought everyone knew about this.

Speaking of that, anyone else notice that they installed ALL of the yellow/black striped signs at Aberdeen backwards? Almost hit a few curbs the very first time I went there. I'm tempted to report it to them (should be an easy fix, a few switcheroos and maybe a new sign or two) but dunno who to call.
