While the officer was definitely out of line (especially when he arrested her) and should've patched her through, imho the girl was asking for it. She could've just taken a deep breath, slowed down, and not talked like a potty-mouth. Why the hell would you swear at a 911 operator anyways? Not exactly the fastest way to get help.
It's like the people who act all arrogant and stuff when getting pulled over or passing through customs. Not exactly going to earn you the best treatment.

lol @ "asking for it"
wow, i think the operator was completely in the wrong. there's no way i would be calm after calling 911 and then getting hung up on. 2 weeks suspension is a joke, the guy should definitely be fired.
hope the girl's family wins a big settlement

Well, the sargeant is definitely a fucking moron, that's for sure. Hey, guess what... when someone is calling 911, there are sometimes more important issues at hand than curse words, especially when she's not even using them towards you as a personal insult.
However, it could have soooo easily been averted by her. After the sargeant told her to not swear and to slow down, after she says "OK", instead of saying "I need a fucking ambulance", if she had just said, "Sorry, I really need an ambulance", then we wouldn't be talking about this at all.

^err.... iono about that man..
put yourself in her shoes.. if you're in frantic motion and cannot even comprehend what you're doing since someone you care dearly about is lying on the floor potentially dead, what are the chances you'll be able to calm yourself after the police officer tells you to calm down...
it's like getting the whole "REELAXX" when you raise your voice a little.. never works
other than the threatening.. "do you want to lose your job" etc.. i dont think much of the swearing was directed at the operator - she just used them to emphasize her emotions?

more like the call is connected at that point and she's sitting in the queue waiting to be transferred to an operator. The dialing sounds you hear in the video are most likely fake, or a cold/blind transfer to the right queue for that callcenter. I wouldn't be surprised if the same agents were taking panago calls on the same ext/DID's.
It's kinda how like when a call hits a call center, it goes through the queue to the agent, if the agent isn't muted, you hear a lot of funny stuff.
"... and then I killed the hooker!... Oh shi... Thankyou for calling Rogers Customer Care, how may I assist you today?"
I used to listen to QA calls all day... and man... some of it is just
Man... I hate being around call centers... how did I fall into working with them so often >_<

I can't believe he hung up on an emergency call.
That piece of shit sargeant (20yr veteran + commendations) is a full grown man, can he not understand a 17yr old girl is probably going to act that way given the situation at hand? He should be fearing for his job right now...but I guess in a small town it slides, since the girl was using profanity over the phone :mamoru:
ANYONE should be able to dial 9-1-1 and know without a doubt, the person on the other end is there to help, simple as that.

another example of how good it is to work public sector
In the private sector, doing anything remotely like this would get you fired instantly. No question asked and no matter how long you have been with the company. 2 weeks suspension/(or vacation?) is a joke.
He should be fired and charged with criminal negligence.
for the record, I didn't hear the girl swear at the operator. She said wtf before the operator picks up the call, and she asks for an ambulance first appropriately, and then he operator started going psycho
I can't say I agree with what the cop did. He needs to exhibit a little bit of professionalism and not be such an ass. If he wanted to lecture her, then he could have done it after dispatching someone. Instead, he wasted 6 minutes performing this tug of war. I'm surprised she got the same person every time calling 911. I know here in Vancouver, it goes out to E-comm which has a fairly large call centre, where you'd probably get a different person. Must be some backward-ass small town. :D
As for hearing the call before it was picked up, he probably answered just as she swore...co-incidence more than likely. As for the dialing at the beginning, it was probably dialling because it was doing some ineternal routing (for example from the 911 center to the nearest emergency location that could assist). It definitely was not the girl dialing, since 911 is only three digits, and not the long string that you heard. :D
I guess she could have avoided most of it by apologizing and just not swearing. My guess is that she's probably a high maintennance diva that gets what she wants from daddy by pitching a fit and probably that combatitive with everyone. Regardless, it doesn't make what the officer did right.
Ferra: She actually swore at the operator before the call, and once during each of the subsequent calls she made.

I heard she said what the fuck before the operator started answering the call..obviously that wasn't directed at the operator
Then she said something like send me a fucking ambulance to this fucking address, and I don't see how that is offending to the operator.
She used swear words but it wasn't directed at the operator. It was more like an expression.
On the other hand, the operator started calling the caller stupid fuck / ass and other names.

It sounded like aggression toward the operator. If I were on the receiving end of that, I'd perceive it as being directed towards me.
The first one wasn't directed at him in general, but I think all the other subsequent ones were.
Still, I agree with everyone else that the operator is an ass and shouldn't be in a public facing role if he can't handle the occasional swear word.
The girl needs to relax too and think about who she's talking to. It's like swearing at the surgeon before you're going into surgery. Do you really think dropping a few f bombs and giving him shit before you go into surgery is going to help your situation one bit?

this guy should be fired i hope she wins a huge settlement. this was completely unproffesional, it doesnt make a difference if the girl is 17 or 50 if my father is on the floor im not thinking of what im saying im just trying to get help as fast as I can and i would be panicking too if i couldnt get through. Can you imagine if her father died on the floor. If somebody calls 911 frantically there is usually a reason for it. thats why its 911 im sure alot of people that work at 911 hear alot of swearing but its not at them personally the person was swearing for the situation she was in she never said F*** you to the cop she said can you send the F***ing ambulance.

I had something similar happen to me except it was with a taxi operator and it wasn't me that was swearing it was my friend next to me when I was on the phone. We were both drunk and needed a cab ride home and when I was speaking with the operator my friend was drunk and talking to herself and used the f word a couple of times. It wasn't directed at anyone but the operator overheard it and threatened not to send a cab if she continued to swear. I got my friend to shut up so he would send a cab, if I wasn't in kelowna with only 1 cab company I would of hungup and called another cab company.

aren't they trained to deal with these types of situations? he could have at least assured her help was on the way to calm her down, and then maybe bitch at her and say he doesnt appreciate her attitude or tone of voice
what the fuck did he think was going to happen by threatening not to send help

when your dads about to die
you dont know what comes out of your mouth
The hanging up part really got me.
Seriously. There is no need EVER to hang up on a 911 call. I don't care if it is a prank or not, there is no way of knowing without having an officer follow up on it.
Who cares about the foul language? Leave it alone, someone is in panic, you can only expect that kind of stuff to come out.

That is fucked.
What about the fact that he is arresting her for charges that dont even exist?
He was verbally abusive towards her.
He was negligent.
And he arrested her for no reason.

Hello Mr.Police officer sir. my father whom is 57 years old and a recent brain operation patient is having a seizure on the kitchen floor at XXXXX hartwick street. I do believe he lieks chocolate milk and was called "Rusty" when he was a young boy. Can you please send a vehicle of ambulatory purpose to our immediate aide as I am afraid that death is imminent if nothing is done.
What the fuck does the cop expect at an EMERGENCY hotline? jeez.

He wouldn't, but he should give the caller the benefit of the doubt. Swearing and emergencies go hand in hand, he should know that...look at how he was acting towards the girl, and that was hardly an emergency on his part, and he was already acting irrational. Imagine how HE would act in a real emergency.
He shouldn't expect anything else from the caller - because she is going to be panicking and want to get straight to the point and demand an ambulance - she's not calling to make friends.
