Just wondering has anyone been notified about their scholarship yet? I haven't heard anything yet, and I wonder if it is because I haven't paid my tuition yet. Usually they are pretty quick..

Even if you get approved, they don't disburse it until the 7th week. Usually I don't get approved until the second round, in which they will let you know during the 7th week but this semester I got accepted the first round, yet still have not received my funds. You should still pay your tuition on time and then they will credit your account and mail you a cheque or you can leave it there for next semester.

This is the open undergraduate scholarship for continuing students. If you have an entrance scholarship, you have to wait until that is completely paid out before you qualify. The CGPA requirement is minimum 3.6, term GPA 3.5 I believe. Recently, the GPA has been set higher though, more like 3.7 ish. The amount you get varies, but usually it is about $100 per unit or sth like that.

Wait, this is probably easier. http://students.sfu.ca/financialaid/scholarships/undergradcontinuing.html

oh shit... i missed out on so many opportunities.

what does it mean "*been enrolled in one of the last 3 terms*?
and if you meet all the criteria, it's a sure win right?

There are no other hidden criteria like only the top 100 applicants gets it (because of lack of funding, etc), right?

You don't have to apply for it, you are automatically considered.

The GPA differs slightly from term to term, depending on the funds available. So if people did really well a certain term, a 3.6 may not cut it.

"Monetary Value

The value of the scholarship is set each year by the University as a portion of the actual tuition costs accrued by those eligible. For Fall 2005, Spring 2006 and Summer 2006, the scholarship will be paid at the rate of $100 per unit for normally graded courses in the term.

Questions about the Open Undergraduate Scholarship can be emailed to Eugenie Ko, Manager, Student Awards ."

They don't even tell you what's the value for these terms now...

Yes, i got money put into my account two days ago. Seems like this semester the value is paid out at $70dollars/unit. In previous terms it was usually around $100-$110 ish.

There are no "tiers" in the open scholarship. You either get it or you don't. Everyone gets the same amount per unit.

oh, thanks for clarifying that. I thought there were tiers because it was $70/unit and it wasn't quite logical to give students that got 4.33 GPA the same amount as those that got say, a 3.8 or something. Oh well, money is money! pocket in!

Ienhz, I'm surprised you haven't been got yours yet if you've been hovering there for so long... maybe it was in your account and you just don't notice it?

Haha. Hey Judechow, you just usually leave your money in there for the next semester and such?

Haha..yea..everyone gets the same amount....
You can either leave it in the account for next semester, or you can get a cheque after the 5th week of classes. I like the cheque!

Hello ASG111,

The CGPA to receive the open undergraduate scholarship is usually set at around 3.7. You will, however, also have to have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in your last term of enrollment along with other eligibility criteria (in terms of course load) you will have to meet.
More information can be found at http://students.sfu.ca/financialaid/scholarships/index.html#openschol

It is also worthy to note that there are a number of scholarships that one can apply for outside of the open scholarship. Some of these awards/scholarships, in fact, have significantly lower GPA requirements in relationship to the the open scholarship. However, these awards/scholarships will require you to complete an application form for the specific award/scholarship (you will not be considered automatically). Again, more information can be found via the link I have posted above.

Good luck.
