speed radar truck?

I was just driving along Oak earlier at 10:15am, and around 54th, there was a minivan with it's truck open with a huge display. As I drove pass, it displayed "57", then I was like Looked at my speedometer. And I was like OH!

Thought I'll post this up, just because it's my first time seeing one of these.
But this is old news??

Is it like a photo radar, or is a cop actually in the truck?
I was tempted to turn into an inside street and loop back around to try going through it again, at different speeds just to "play" with it... but gas is expensive... lol

But I've been slowing down these past few months, or the display would of said something like 80. I love ripping it on Oak...

those are actually community policing center speed traps....

they show you your speed in hopes you slow down.

SOMETIMES there will be cops a couple blocks down with real radar guns.
they scared you once in hoping you will slow down...
but sometimes people just speed back up thinking that was it.
cops make a killing that way.

Yeah...they've been around for a long time...
You should feel lucky they weren't real cops with radar guns...

I heard if you go fast enough, the speed truck sensor will malfunction and explode.

I wonder if these things can display 3 digit numbers, haha. I always think they have enough room to only display 2 digits.

Wonder if anyone driven past one of these radars at 100 haha.

Isn't there an extra extra column to the left of the board for a "1"? It's just a skinny line instead of the full 8 LED display. Or maybe my memory is messed up...

but yeah those have been around a while.

So if you go fast enough... going 200, the "2" will make this explode for sure.
Wait... my car only tops out at 188... and it takes a whole minute to get up there

It's only a radar speed sign. They're at most used for records and to issue warnings if the community speed watch folks got your plate.

used to see one before all the cambie st. work in the oakridge area. they would have the van parked on the side of the road with the display for everyone to see... but about a block later there would be a police-manned radar trap and they were STILL catching people speeding!

... fail.
