Horrible bus lady on 491 in DT

so today, i decide to chill in DT with a couple of friends,
at around 5:30 when we were leaving, I didn't really wanna take the bus, but since my friend was going to bus neways, i go with her on the 491? which ends up in richmond somewhere, but I plan to get off on Granville and broadway around chapters.
So I pull out my $1.75 before the bus comes, and i'm one of the few ppl who need to use coins, but yeah... my friend had a bus pass so she was fine, but i put in my coins, and she's about to press the print button, and she pauses for a sec, looks at me from bottom to top, and asks me where i'm going,
(possibly assuming i'm going to richmond cos i'm azn?) my friend says richmond, and so she asks me to pay for the transfer, and I'm like no, i'm just taking the bus across the bridge to granville, and shes like "no, you just say richmond!" and finally prints my ticket, and as i take it she goes "fucking people... (and muttering some other shit)"
First off even if i was going to richmond with my friend,
apparently some guy told me that past 6 you don't need to pay the transfer, so by the time we get to richmond it would be past 6, so she can say shit.
I've been bussing occasionally for the past 3 years or so, and I've never met a driver as rude as her. Should've written down her name and everything, but I know around what time i got on and that bus only comes once every 15 mins, so i can probably narrow it down if I have to.
So i'm just wondering, whats the rudest a bus driver has been to you?

Every bus driver I've encountered in the GVRD has been incredibly rude. Its like the psych test to get hired requires you to love kicking puppies.

There was this one who was a douche, but I can't remember what he did or said
All I remember was that the friend who was with me retorted: "at least I won't end up as a bus caddy like you". He after shooting that he was planning on quickly moving to the back of the bus (unanswered victory), but the bus was packed. So my friend and the bus driver ended up being side-to-side, like 3 feet apart, for the entire trip...awkward

You gotta learn when to take action into your own hands... should have put her into a MMA submission move and make her tap... then she wouldn't be the 'boss'.
This is another reason why not to take translink, i hate it.

Interestingly enough, this was my rudest encounter ever with a transit driver anywhere, including HK. I was shocked because I know a guy who quit his office job and became a bus driver, He says that its fairly low stress and got lots of benefits, and he's a generally happy guy. So i'm wondering why this one was such a bitch
I've came across some very nice bus drivers and some very rude ones.
The good:
One time, I forgot my U-Pass at home, and I didn't realize it till I reach in my wallet. I told the bus driver I forgot the bus pass and all he said was "Ok, that's fine. Just remember to bring it next time."
However, a lot of bus drivers abuse their rights.
The Bad
I was on a community bus in Delta and the bus stops in front of a Sikh temple. There were about 12 Sikhs (mostly elderly) getting on the bus. They sat down one by one, and the bus driver suddenly announced through its PA system: "Move the fuck to the back of the bus!" It reminded me when the African-Americans were discriminated and were only allowed to sit at the back of the bus and I was shocked and furious. Even though it wasn't directed at me, I still find that driver to be extremely rude.

wow, considering that they could all get a seat means the bus probably wasn't that crowded.
Although i understand asking people to move back when it's crowded, Theres never an excuse to swear like that, like I got sworn at today.
Luckily I only take the bus when I have no other choice, (well besides taxis, but i'm too cheap)
Next time something like this happens note the time and the number printed on the inside of the bus at the front above the door. This way the Coast Mountain officials will know who exactly was driving the bus at the time of the incident.
A similar incident happened to my friend and she made a report. She got a call by a representative the next day. The representative apologized, got her side of the story and took disciplinary actions toward the driver.

Well, it was one of those small community buses. The bus had 2-3 seats left after they boarded. I understand that since they are elderly people, they tend to sit more relaxed and block the center pathway between the two row of seats. However, it is very obvious that the bus driver did it out of racism, and yes, there's never an excuse to swear like that.

yeah totally unprofessional to swear at work, but then again you and your friend did say two different things... she says youre going to richmond, you say no im off at granville... bus driver in a hurry and youre just slowing down her run blah blah...
uncalled for, but next time dont let your friend butt into your bus driver dealings...

It's 6:30 actually. And you need to get on the bus AT or after 6:30 for that to apply.
I had a driver once announce things like it were a tour bus. Needless to say, it was both awesome and hilarious. Awesome driver.
It was a female driver too. And once we passed a skytrain station, she instructed a lesson about "priority seating" as there was bunch of elder people who got on. Some stupid douchebag highschool kids didn't get the message still and sat as the old people were standing right in front of them.
I stepped in and asked him to give his seat up. He complied.

well the worst bus drive i had was when i got onto the bus at bcit
had my 1 zone pass and my student ID showing
showed it to the bus driver and walked passed, he pulls on my bag and yanks me back
me: wtf
driver: looks clearly at my student ID and says next time show your student ID more clearly
me: fuk you asshole in my head of course
some bus drivers are actually funny too
had one guy that kept telling jokes and stuff the whole bus ride

I've had generally neutral driver experiences, but there's one driver who will mark the bus as "full" when there's room for at LEAST 10-15 standing people up front. When I was bussing to martial arts, there was this one asshole driver who looked like one of those highway patrol cops with the mustache and sunglasses just chewing out any kid who came on at the time, bullshit like "do you have your GoCard? No? GET OFF.". I know that the GoCard is required for HS students, but only 5 drivers out of the hundreds of trips I've made on the bus have ever asked to see my card.

There are some real dickheads out there, but some really awesome drivers that will go out of their way and are probably breaking rules to get you there on time. So many times have I been jam-packed on a bus on 41st with me standing literally on the front step of the bus. That is WAY past the "red line".
There are also the jerks that you KNOW heard people yell out "back-door!" when they've left the bus stop too quick and someone needs to get off, but still continue to floor it until the next step.

Hmm... Well i Know I got on the 491 at around 5:50 PM today at burrard and robson, and considering they only come once every 15 mins or so, it shouldn't be too hard to narrow it down
Any idea what translink did? I mean I wanna see her suffer, maybe decrease her pay or something so she'll be more of a bitch, I want something to justify not beating the crap out of her at the moment and staying calm. I want compensation, and I want her to feel the pain!!! muahahahahha

I've actually made a few complaints about bus drivers but it always seems to fall on deaf ears. I just dont really give a shit anymore and ignore what they say. If they want to power trip because they want to find some meaning in their life, go ahead.
Chances are, you probably wont see the same bus driver again unless you take the route often.
i swear passing an asshole test is part of their training
one time i saw a bus stopped at a sign and this old granny was trying to cross the street while dragging a little kid ~8yo? then the bus pulls away from the transfer point only to stop at a street light 2 feet away from the sign and that D bag wouldn't open the door for the granny. that REALLY PISSED me off. if i were closer, i would have stood infront of the bus until he opened the door

Yeah maybe this suck it in, punish later isn't doing it. We should be legally allowed to bring "justice" to asshole bus drivers. Our bus system is already so hard to use (i dunno i'm from HK way easier) and these guys giving us a hard time only makes our lives more difficult. It's actually kinda rare to see nice drivers, maybe okay ones, but genuinely nice people aren't common

Well there's definitely nothing you can do that will decrease her pay, because they are unionized. But if you explain your situation I'm sure they will at least talk to her about it and maybe make her take some cultural awareness classes? It sounds like a joke, but in all seriousness, I think they will follow up on a driver who is being racist or prejudice in any way.
I think my friend said they suspended the driver for a period of time, couple days. I'll have to ask her again though.
It's best to have the number on the inside of the bus. I always thought it was the number outside in the little black box, but it's not. They can identify the driver easier if you have the date, time of day and the exact bus number.

My uncle is a bus driver. He hates his job so much, half the time be bullshits like he has the flu or something so he skip work and stay home. He said it's too stresful and has to deal with a lot of rude people all day and night long. He would love to find a another job but the man has no education, it's drive the bus or go back to driving a taxi.

I think you see that right here.
There's the OP talking all big about punishment for a slight. Of course we only hear one half of the story. Grow the FUCK up, shut the FUCK up and deal.
Bus drivers are human and many of them only take some much idiocy in a day.

This sucks, but I am guessing that this may have something to do with liability.
PS - has anyone here actually thanked the bus driver as they've got off? I took the bus for more than ten years and I almost always thanked the driver when leaving. I was almost always the only one.

I would imagine that all bus drivers take quite a bit of abuse daily and on top of that they still have to worry about driving and safety of all the passengers on their bus so I'm not too surprised with the rage some drivers have. I guess someone would argue and say if you can't handle the pressure, find another job but if it was only that easy.....

My buddy ran into an asshole bus driver the other night. Said he and his friends got on after a night of alcoholic beverages (except for him) and the bus driver started swearing at them. They were all standing up and the bus driver slammed on the brakes at their stop almost throwing them into the poles and knocking out their teeth. Buddy went up to the driver to question her and she started telling him off.
End result: He emailed translink the bus information and this ordeal.

once the driver pulls away from the stop, they technically are not supposed to let you off anymore since it's a liability issue.
those that do, do it for the sake of the passenger but are putting themselves at risk should the passenger some how get injured getting off on the curb and decide to sue.
ilvtofu
06-06-2009, 10:48 AM
but when it court and up to a jury to decide, the jury could side with the driver and say that he/she was just being kind, even though he did screw up and miss the stop or something
Peanut Butter Jelly Time!
06-06-2009, 11:01 AM
the point i was trying to make was that, bus drivers have no legal obligation to let anyone off the bus once it has pulled away from the stop.
all be it it's the driver's fault for missing the stop but they still don't have to let you off.
it's not necessarily because the driver is a jerk and hence they don't let you off, but because there are other liability issues at work. i just don't think most people understand that part of the equation.
