Quick question about Costco membership

I'm thinking of applying for a Costco membership card in order to purchase something. I don't normally shop at Costco so my only reason for getting a card is to make this purchase.
Anyway my question is, I read that Costco will refund your membership at any time if you are dissatisfied. Does anyone know how it works? Do you have to at least purchase something at least once? Is it a no questions asked kinda thing? How long does it take to get the refund?
I just don't plan on paying $50 for a yearly membership just for one item.
thanks!

Why don't you get one of your friends with a Costco membership to buy the item for you? It's better than going through that whole process just to get one thing.

unless i'm mistaken, if you refund your membership, you will also lose the ability to take advantage of the refund policy and their double warranty

you will ultimately save money when shopping in costco, even with the $50.
everything is in bulk though... lol

Costco is worth it, though. Sure it's bulk, but it's great for stocking up on consumables, especially when they go on sale, like TP.

Agree. One Time Purchase like you plan.
Get a Costco Gift Card. Even $25 can do it and pay the rest with cash or debit.

Hmmm, Don't they have an exclusive membership card? Like you get points everytime you shop and you get like 5% of all your purchases back. And if you don't shop over $45 you get $45 back? Or does the card cost more than $45?

I actually went to get a card today and the executive card you get 2% cash back annually. Over a year you would get back $48 minimum assuming you spend $200/month which would cover the difference between a Gold Star card and the Executive card making it worth it. Of course if you spend more then $200/month you get more.
I was previously just doing the gift card thing but with a membership I get a free spouse card for my gf and it's just easier.

I do believe they give you the $48 even if you don't spend over $200 a month.

You can buy online and pay a small fee for not having a card. I did this, cost me $10 with free shipping for some shelves I wanted.

Alright thanks
but I guess no one here has tried getting a refund eh?
Well I need to not only buy something but I wanted to get a free fitting and try out one of their contact lenses (the Air Optix Aqua) because due to my dry eyes, I just wanted to see whether those might be more comfortable. At my optometrist, the bitch at the counter won't let me have a trial and gives me such a rude attitude (she also did that to my friend when he went to have his eyes examined), which pisses me off because trial contacts are FREE for optometrists, they get samples directly from the manufacturer.
So yeah, that's why I need a membership, because not only am I buying something, I also need to get fitted for contacts at their optical department.

The money I save from buying gas alone pays for dozens of memberships a year.

Just got my card a month ago.
Few things.
1) Refund the membership anytime you're not satisfied. It's their policy. Not sure how easy it is to do it.
2) Their amex gives you 2% cash back. Some details on how that is calculated, but you can find that in store.

^ spend around around $7000 with the AMEX for the year will get you enough cash back to cover the membership fee

Costco card also works globally and you can return things globally as well. I bought a camera in Korea and returned it here :)
