: Certain ad on sidebar lags my browser...

Basically, the ad for that free credit report slows my browser down to the point where it barely responds. If I move away from it (go underneath it to other sub-boards), then it runs normally.

Any way I can fix it, or would removing the ad be the only solution?

EDIT: the ad is starting to piss me off a bit. It's where the Vancouver OT and automotive threads are located, and I can barely access them with the ad running near them.

Nothing we can really do as those ads pay for RS.

i think theres gotta be something wrong with your browser because mine runs just fine with the ads.

these ads are really minimal compared to some other sites out there.

If I'm quick about it, I can set the ad animation quality to low. It helps, but it only makes it go from unbearably slow to choppy at best.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache? Does the slowness happen with other browsers?

Try reinstalling flash browser, or upgrading your video card drivers. a <30K flash animation should not cause any problems under normal circumstances (and they don't, for the rest of the 300,000 people who come here)

Is it the "Free Canadian Credit Report" ad?

it does the same for me, slows it down, but that's because i already have a weak connection to begin with (laptop with rogers portable internet)

other tabs will respond fine for me, it's just RS that will lag till I navigate away from the ad

I had the lag today on my work computer with Firefox. Checked the processes and Firefox was eating up 95% of the processor time. I cleared the cache, and everything is well again.

Yeah, the browser I use is Firefox btw. Still lags the hell out of my system until I move away from it.

try opera or chrome and see if the problem is solved
