Help! I busted the LAN connection of my PS3 when i tripped on the wire still connected to my ps3. now it won't connect online.
Anyone know where i can get this repaired? its already out of warranty (over a year old) and Sony charges $170 for their service

did you try using another cable? you probably broke a wire inside it when you tripped. either that or try looking at the socket to see if a pin is bent, which would be an easy fix as well.
lastly try wireless, it works great for me

Or just buy a wireless router. PS3 has WIFI.

exactly like others said go wireless
other then that when you tripped was it pulled? and how is it? pics?
you might be able to get someone to open it up and re-solder those joints

thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm just gonna go do wireless. I was just hesitant on going that way because I occasionally play sf4 online and worried about added lag. But I'm going to try it out since my only other choice is ship it to sony and pay a lot to get it fixed since I don't know anyone that solders and I heard you have to take apart so many things just to get to that LAN part.
Regarding the pins - there's 2 pins bent which i manage to straighten out a bit bit I think one of them is disconnected - its not sitting at the same height as the other ones.

to give you an idea of how well the wireless works, when I play CoD4 and 5 I get 4-5 bars of 5 all the time on Shaw highspeed, with 4-5 walls between the PS3 and a wireless G router.

some D-Link piece of junk. I got it at Futureshop about 4-5 years ago for $10 after a mail in rebate. I've found the PS3 connects better with security turned off on the wireless, since the router's range is smaller than our property I don't care haha.
also make sure your router isnt too close to the PS3.

I'm using a wrt54gl, and it is on the other side of my house.
I usually get 20%-40% wireless connection strength for my PS3, which is low.
Using shaw highspeed, terayon modem, wrt54gl with Tomato 1.11
I just bought a 50ft rj45 cable and planning to go wired since it's impossible to move my wifi router.
Is there anyway to increase wifi strength in my situation?

I'm using a Linksys WRT54g and I've got a strong signal strength with my PS3 downstairs. I even keep my router upstairs.

boost the signal wattage, or use a directional antenna
