Anyone have this yet? Do they charge you extra if you go over your bandwidth limit?

i've been on telus for so many years and they've never charged for extra BW (i'm on regular hi-speed).
I'm only getting like 2.8Mb/s down though...400kb/s up :(

Telus is fucking dumb, today they called my grandparents house and left a message saying that the phone and internet would be out for 5 mins while they swapped some parts at the junction box down the road and to call them back. the clowns didn't leave a number, and their phone and internet is still out. they had to drive to our house to call the number on their bill to get sent around to finally find some other clown who barely knew what was going on. my grandpa told them if it isn't fixed by 9am they're switching to Shaw internet and phone.

not bad not bad.
$28 a month for this kind of speed is pretty good in my books - can't complain (Telus retention gave me a sweet deal - no contract required).
Will have to use it for awhile to see if they acutally enforce that 100GB cap or not.
Otherwise it's a pretty sweet deal.

Jesus christ, I just phoned in and asked why im paying so much for such little speed and they're like "Oh I can upgrade you to the 6mbps for the same price since the High Speed service is 1.5-6.0". Wow, seriously? Then who would want the 1.5 speed at all.

I'm trialing the Turbo right now, and I plan on going back to regular High Speed afterwards. The speed is decent, but the modem they give you fucking sucks, it cuts out at random and takes two minutes to start back up.

Request for the Thompson Modem. Just keep nagging them that it'll work. Then get your own Wireless setup.

I only have a month trial so I won't be doing that anytime soon, unless I swap out my modem (before I trialed, I had an old D-Link modem hooked up to a wired router) when I step down at the end of the month. The Siemens one they give you is a terrible piece of junk...
skyxx
07-20-2009, 06:22 PM
I'm running the Siemens modem and have no problems so far. Been using it for almost 3 years now. But yes It is a junk modem. Regardless if you step down you'll still use the Siemens. You need to ask them for the Thompson modem. The best one out of the bunch.

$28 ???
yip. called telus and started to complain about my super slow 3mbps line (I have Telus HD tv so can't get more than that). They transferred me to retention and the guy offered me to install a 2nd line into my house for internet only, 1 month free + $28 for 1 year + $33 afterwards (not $38 like advertised, not too sure why but hey I'll take it lol), no contract.
couldn't pass that up so I took the deal and it's been working great!

WOW it's $5 cheaper now!!!
cut the sarcasm please and do some research.
let's see:
Shaw's 15mbps price (standalone) = $52
Telus' 15mbps price (standalone) = $43
Verizon FiOS 15mbps (standalone) = $50 US
last time I checked 52 is a larger number than 43. HMMMMMm. and compared to the US pricing it is damn good as well.
you gotta be fair when comparing these prices and can't just be biased because you don't like Telus for some reason
these prices are high because we're in good ol' Canada/North America so don't use whatever rate you are paying now in whatever country you are in for comparison. That's like saying you can get a bowl of soup in China for 50 cents when you pay 3 dollars here for the same thing - wow we're getting ripped off ! duh!

I just phoned in to telus retentions and got $28 a month for the 10-15mbps line for the next year. This is vs my old 31$ for 1.5mbps... They also changed our familys phone service so its cheaper and we get more features

I actually like my Telus haha. I just recently upgraded to the Turbo package as well but I'm paying $42 a month. I didn't ask for the Thompson modem though I simply bought a D-Link 2320B ADSL2+ Router from NCIX and it works great with my own router! The 6-7 years of ADSL service I never had a down time or slow speed maybe I'm just lucky haha.
When you guys upgrade to turbo do they need to send you a new modem?
twitchyzero
08-25-2009, 10:42 AM
hmm
my family just upgraded to turbo and we're paying $38 (bundled w/ home phone that's got all the features + internationl).
we were paying $36 for 3.0mbps for the past year and half (1.5mbps before that for same price)
they said the $28 is only for new customers?? They said we have to leave for 90 days and come back if we want that deal..but we've been with telus DSL since the start which is like 10 years ago!
I asked for the Thompson Speedtouch too.

I got a new modem (the Siemens) when I asked for the Turbo trial. Since then, I downgraded to normal High Speed and was able to keep it, it's decent anyways.

call, tell them that Shaw's been phoning you and sending you ads with all these great deals to switch over, but you thought you'd like to check with Telus first... 90% of the time they'll immediately transfer you to loyalty & retention and that is where you negotiate with the phone rep to get a good deal.
remember to be polite and don't threaten them... you'd be surprised at how far that will get you in terms of getting what you want from Telus.
I just called Telus again from my parents' and got some great deals too: $16 for landline service + $20 for highspeed 6mbps + new Thompson speedtouch modem. No contract. My dad's been using highspeed lite (256kbps! omg) for many years and it was great that we upgraded him to highspeed and at a lower cost.

Saying that Shaw's calling me might be a problem--dry DSL means I'm only using a cellphone, so that might be nixed. maybe that I've seen Shaw offers? Or my friend just got hooked up?
Also, what deals should I quote from them in case I get called on it? I have literally no idea what I'm doing here.

hmmm that doesn't sound right, 110ms ping... do you have a wireless router connected to the modem? you can always call Telus to have them check your line as well to make sure everything's setup properly.

my parents have been receiving Shaw pamphlets over the last few months, with these deals being offered:
$20 for highspeed 7.5mbps
$20 for digital phone service with caller ID and 3 cent long distance rate
both are free for 2 months and then $20 each for the next 6 months.
I would just quote the internet one since you have no need for phone service... it also depends on who you get on the other end as well so YMMV.
