No more closures for the Pattullo Bridge

Work finished faster than expected

SURREY (NEWS1130) - No more late night surprises for people travelling between New Westminster and Surrey. TransLink says paving on the Pattullo Bridge went much faster than expected.

There will be no more evening closures on the bridge, although there will be lane closures from time to time for line painting.

Probably not, they do that to stop the drunktards from going headon into people.

I remember last saturday, it took me 2.5 or so hours to head back home to Vancouver from Surrey. The line on 152nd reminded me of Jan/Feb, when somebody tried to burn down Patuello. hahaa

How the fuck do you go from an estimated 2-3 weeks to 3 days? That's what I want to know.

Should I be impressed that they finished "ahead of schedule"? That estimate was so full of shit, it's not even funny.

That bridge could've probably been done over night if they used the full force of the city.

I work for a contracting company, mostly operating equipment.

I'm ASSuming this job was contracted out. If it was, how the fuck does anyone get the job with estimates like that? Kickbacks?

If it was done by the city.......... naw......If it was done by the city, it would've taken another two weeks.

Good job, Translink - you fuckin' morons.

Wasn't it the city that repaired the bridge REALLY quickly when those hobos burned down part of the deck?

My only guess is that they found the damaged pavement was way less severe than previously thought, negating the need for a couple of steps in the process.

And you guys are COMPLAINING that they're finishing ahead of schedule? Nice work.

It shouldn't have mattered how much of the pavement was damaged cause they were supposed to remove asbestos off the bridge, which would've required all the pavement be removed, sans the part that was replaced after the fire.

Question is -

Do they still keep the payment for the two weeks of work even though they spent three days working?

I mean, this contracting company had to turn down other jobs and re-schedule their business around a high priority job like the Pattullo bridge. This means potentially lost wages for the next few weeks. Do our tax dollars go to rectifying this problem?

It depends on whether there was a contract price or if it was by the hour. If it was the former, they'd get paid for the job, regardless of how long it took = we take it in the ass.

It could have all been done by one company, where they set up the flaggers, lights, trucking, operators, labourers, etc. and quoted a price or there may have been several companies contracted to do each individual job. It could also be a case of some contract workers (contract price) combined with some city workers (hourly wage).

My issue is with the fact that whoever was responsible for estimating the job (Translink) fucked up............ on our dime....... again.

I'm guessing it was probably done cost plus because of abnormal scope of work and the messed up hours it could be worked on. If thats the case it wouldn't have made a difference, the faster the better.

If it was a set contract Fliptuner is right, we probably took it in the ass.
