What is the matter with Canadians not being able to tell the difference between a British, Australian and New Zealand accent? Really ticks me off. Learn to hear the difference.

I can tell the difference between British/Aussie (it's pretty blatant...), but not Aussie/Kiwi

Why England people so snobbish? Why hijack all thread? This Northwest North America forum, not England forum. Make your own EnglandScene.net

I can usually tell the difference between all three, but I have lived in New Zealand for about a year+multiple vacations there.

English = easy to tell
Aussie = very similar to the NZ accent, yet much more of a "nasal" sound
NZ = what the other two aren't, and a bit of a softer accent then the Aussies

That's about the best I can describe it.

Heh...exactly! You can only tell the difference if you have came in contact with the dialects. At least for us Asians we can tell between English and French and Spanish and etc. A white dude probably can't tell the difference between Mandarin, Korean and Japanese!

Now have any of you met a person that's Aussie that lived in UK or visa versa? 'cause it's fucked! Can't even tell which is which!

I have a friend from Perth who lived in London for 3 years and another friend from Manchester that lived in Melborne for 5 years. Really wacked accents.

I remember posting a game which compared different asian cultures and not even a single RS member got perfect. Seeing RS consists of 90% asians, you guys couldn't even tell the difference

Yeah, and that's pretty much the same reason why every Jamaican calls me "Jackie Chan" when I'm over there. That's the only thing they know about the Chinese.

Odd because they have a significant Oriental population. (I use Oriental because they distinguish 'Asian' as being of Indo descent.) Hurr.

Ummmmm...that's not even close to the truth...there is a large Chinese population over there...I should know....both my parents were born there and I still have a lot of family there.

Also, they used to call Asian tourists 'Mr Chin' or 'Mrs Chin'....guess some have changed to Jackie Chan...
