"" At the recent Redline Time Attack at Willow Springs Chris Rado dominated in the front-wheel drive Unlimited class posting a 1:22.623 lap time - setting a new record for a front-wheel drive vehicle at the track.

How did he do it? Isn’t it obvious? He stuck a ridiculous looking wing on the front of his tC race car, giving those front tires all the downforce they need. The car is pushing 700hp, 700ft/lbs and weighs a measly 2200 lbs

We’re certain all the other competitors laughed at him… while he sprayed them with champagne from the top of the podium. ""

the video is a must see, lots of awesome cars http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Redline-Time-Attack-at_685994.htm

^ yes, technically speaking it's a whole lot of explaining, but in basics Chris simply said that he had so much proper grip, he couldn't oversteer or understeer the car if he wanted too.

OK....ordering GT wing off Ebay now....

what amazes me is that he shaved 5 seconds off his last years lap time at this same track, the car was basically the same setup minus the wing.

5 seconds is a huuuuuuuuuge gap

This is why you don't race FWD ;). Reminds me of this BMW ad:

You can't power oversteer a FWD car on-throttle anyways.

Odd how I used to watch the BMWs getting spanked by Real Time Racing FWD cars on a regular basis then.........

Funny ad though.

it's called factory backed effort Vs privateers. Heck, a Pontiac G6 can spank Porsche 911 GT3RSR....means nothing to people who understand racing.....

When constrained by rules designed to ensure close racing, all bets are off, because the rules, rather than engineering, set the limit on performance.

When taken to the logical limits of race car engineering, RWD (or AWD in some cases) is the way to go.

Completely agree, I just think the add may be pushing its luck as far as what actually happens during most of the touring car events and such. However yes, if you want to do things properly, really doesn’t make much sense to use a FWD car.

Regardless, funny add.

Z3Guy, your right, doesn’t mean anything, because the rules of the categories they race in dictate what they can and cannot do to the cars, those same rules put the BMW in the same class as the ACURA cars. I guess thats "understanding" racing? If you watched those series, you would realize it probably had more to do with the drivers than the cars that series, and NOTHING to do with it being FWD vs RWD, which is sort of the point I was trying to make. I havent watched the series in a long time (not even sure whats happening with it right now) but Kleinubing was a MONSTER! I can see that was lost in my above post.

This is almost the anti-ricer.

Something that is as effective as it is horrendously ugly. All go, no show.

As much as an eye-sore that front GT wing is, having it on to shave off 5 seconds is huge.

Those BMW ads remind me of an old Honda commercial. It had a bunch of huskies trying to PUSH a dogsled and saying something about how it doesn't make sense. Can't find it for the love of me though.

I was wondering if the same downforce could be achieved by using an extremely over-sized bug/rock deflector or a front splitter aimed downwards.

I'm sure that people will eventually make a front spoiler that doesn't look that ridiculous yet still provides the same downforce

I was a hater on FWD cars competing in the time attack namely bashing gixxer drew's 2g eclipse. However there is one VERY important thing that everyone tends to forget. In time attack if you fry the tires in one hot lap it doesn't matter. Which is why alot of the fwds are beating out the rwd/awd cars. However in any sustained racing series that requires laps and pit stops fwds are hooped.

why dont you put it on the roof, so you get even down force between front and rear?
