Transit Police pulled over a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway Wednesday and took the passenger into custody.

Two officers were on their way back to their office around 3 p.m. Wednesday when they saw something suspicious in a late-model Mercedes heading east in the HOV lane on Highway 1.

Consts. Mike Valente and Bruce Shipley pulled over the car near the Sprott exit and, to their surprise, found that the "passenger" was actually the top half of a mannequin, dressed in a grey hooded sweatshirt.

The officers seized the female mannequin and her hoodie, and issued the 28-year-old Abbotsford man driving the car a $109 ticket.

“That is a first for me," said Const. Shipley, a three-year member of the police service, in a news release. “Everyone is in a hurry these days, but the HOV lane is there for a reason — you get caught misusing it and you could be fined. Drive safely and drive smart."

pssh $109 ticket, well I guess it's not a serious offence,

at least it was a mannequin and not some shitty watermelon or something. Is driving in the HOV lane really that much better?

It would cut your commute in half during rush hour.

I'm a little unclear. I take it he wasn't pulled over for using a Mannequin since they didn't know. Meaning if he wasn't speeding or had broken tail lights, he probably would've continued to get away with it?

Awesome.

I think they need to return the Mannequin. The cops can't just confiscate it.

Awesome.

I don't see how they couldn't spot a person wearing a hoody in the summer.

If your going to try to get away with something like this at least paint the damn thing to resemble skin tones, give her some sunglasses and drop a wig with a hat on top.

Yeah, why the fuck would they confiscate it?

All he had to say was that he was delivering it and was in a rush. Pay the fine. Big deal.

Transit police.......:haha:

you know, i saw that car pulled over -- i was stuck in that traffic jam and thought it was odd that the cops decided to pull over someone in the HOV lane. that's funny!

on a semi-related note -- in that same traffic jam, a car i passed had a chick who took off her top/bra and was tanning while driving. she was hunched over her steering wheel so i couldn't see her boobs =(

you don't even need a dummy, I bet half the cars in the HOV lane heading from 1st ave to port man only have 1 person, but nobody gets pulled over.

if you're going to drive like a 16 year old girl that just got her learners it doesn't matter if you have have more then 1 person in your car use the lane on the furthest right! I hate when people drive slower then the rest of traffic in the HOV lane...

On Hwy 1, you need at least one more person besides the driver, for a total of two people. Oh and motorcycles can go on it too.

That mannequin's kind of hot......... j/k.

I betchya the dude is like missing her. LOL.

My buddy from Alberta makes fun of us drivers from BC, because we obey the laws concerning the HOV lane. Over there nobody gives a rat's ass (so he says).

It would be funny if cops set up road blocks on the HOV lane =D. Do this for a month and I bet they could make millions off ticking ppl illegally using the HOV lane.

thats because people are driving too slow in the fast lane. when 18 wheelers are going as fast as u, u need to speed up!.

soo many crappy drivers driving in the HOV or fast (Middle) lane.
I think if you're gonna just cruise, then drive in the right lane, the HOV and middle lane are for people that can drive at a decent speed.

I 'd say screw the HOV lanes.

The exit for Steveston on the 99 HWY ( heading south ) in the morning is BITCH as it is connected to the HOV lane.

When traffic is lined up due to closing one lane for the Massey Tunnel, drivers who want to exit to Steveston Hwy has either wait 10 to 15 mins in line, or they have to cheat and use the HOV lane to exit.

I see cops there every week in the morning camping there. They give out atleast 50 tickets every single day. its unfair for those who need to exit. if you let these drivers exit, it'll shorten the line as well..

I recommend the gov't to either scrap the HOV lane on the 99, or move the HOV lane to the far left.

to be honest when I saw man caught cheating this is not what I thought it would be about...

If you can't read a fucking sign, it's the slow lane for you. That's the lane furthest to the right, dummy.

+1 to Marco, if the guy isn't holding up the HOV lane then he's taking his own risk driving in it and I'd have no problem with it.

Wait. So how is driving in the HOV lane if you're the only one in the car considered dangerous?
How is taking it so you can avoid slow retards, and cutting your commute by 30 mins considered, not smart?

because if everybody does that it effectively becomes just another lane
