When you send your 360 to MS for red ring repair, do they repair your console or just give you a refurbished one?
most likely a refurbished unit

my box just red ringed again, 3rd time now.
This time the red rings occur 2 months after repair.

Microsoft will no longer send you a box to put your RROD XBox to ship in. They'll give you a pre-paid shipping label of course but it's not as easy breezy as it once was.

I'm on my 4th one but I still love my Xbox maybe I'm just a sucker for punishment? Everyone I know who owns and Xbox is on at least number 3 as well.

My co-worker used to work at Microsoft call centre. She says they would tell customers they were getting new ones as replacement, but they were really just refurbs

true enough. but past a certain point (say, the 3rd fried console) that I would stop giving a shit about how exclusive a game is because I never get to play it.

I'm deliberately trying to fry my console to get a refurb. I'm trying the overheat and sudden cool trick (using my freezer for an hour). Reason I'm doing it is that I've had my Xbox since 2007, and its dying out on me.

i bought the Futureshop PSP so when my xbox RROD (3 times now) I have them ship it out, then I buy a new xbox 360 and play it until i get my fixed version back. then just refund the new purchase. Its like my own little warranty plan lol

that would have made sense, except PS3 has such a crappy game collections for the past 3 years, that 360 has simply no substitute.

depends on your gaming taste. everything I've wanted to play I've been able to get (CoD, GH, UT3, etc) for the PS3. that plus bluray and upconverting like a champ makes me a happy camper.
I'll buy a 360 when I have the money for more games, and after I get a Wii

If you want a new one just call them and tell them it's not working. They'll ask you to turn it off and turn it on and ask what it's doing just tell them you turn it on and your getting 3 red flashing lights.
They'll email you a shipping label you can print out. Put it in a box and send it away. They don't check them, it gets tossed on the pile for repairs and they send you another one they've already fixed back.
I had to do this after the last one they sent me had a fucked up DVD rom that would give me disk read errors all the time. I wasn't sure if they'd warranty the DVD so I just told him it was RROD. It doesn't matter if it is or isn't, as long as it's covered under the 3 year warranty they'll send you another.
