another install question

i replaced my honda deck (1990 accord) with my friends deck. i think i did something wrong with the wiring or maybe its the deck. the deck will power on when i press the disp button, and display the time then turn off. all the other buttons dont do anything, but the eject button will power the unit up and then eject the cd and then power off again. is this something wrong with the deck or something with my wiring? i didn't connect the power antenna wire from the car, nor the remote wire from the deck. I'm replacing the deck because, the old honda deck didn't work.

Sounds like no accessory power going to it.

hey guys,
so I check the deck by taking it out and bringing it to the engine bay and touching the wires to the battery. it powered up and i could cycle it through the cd and radio without a problem. i did this by using the yellow and red to the positive on the battery and the black to the neg. i went back and retried the wiring and even tried combining the red and yellow off the deck to the accessory and then also the the battery, but same problem, where the deck just powers on for a sec and then powers down. my question now, is what are my options and what do i do first? do i have a short? i've got power since it does power one only for a moment.
thankss

check for power with a multi-meter or test light.
