SEMI-REVIEW (Full review near the end of July)
Well i recentley bought a set of these so called "$79.99 HIDs". Found the set i wanted, had em tested, yeah they seemed to work. Didn't need a relay for it.
They're NON RETURNABLE, NO EXCHANGE, NO WARRENTY...
Apparently they carry a 1 year warrenty and you have to pay $30 when you come back for the warrenty...
Anyways i just installed a set of H11 (4,800K) in a Honda Pilot w/ OEM projectors.
The one bulb seemed to have some sort of crap in it but they still work. mounted the ballasts in a decent place away from most of the engine heat.
On the ballasts they say that the life span is approx. 3,000 hours.
I'm going on vacation soon and i'll be taking this car w/ me so we'll see what the lights are like over the trip. i'm bring a set of halogen replacement incase they blow.
Hope this semi-review helps. i'll post my full review 1-2weeks from now.
Cheers!

Do you mind telling me the average life of this kit is? PM the answer. Honesty counts :)

I can't give you an answer of the kit you just got ($79), because we just had this a month ago. Average life of HID kits from China, ballast 2-3 year, some may last up to 4 or 5 years. As for the light bulb, 3000 hrs. The JS kit we used to carry they are also from China, many of revscene member are happy the quality and price.
For example: $79/4, it'll only cost you $20 each ballast or bulb, that's almost the same price as Nokia halogen bulb and cheaper than you buying PIAA halogen bulb.

did a few installs using the the cheapo $79 ones. H11 for these bulbs are using plastic clips to hold the bulb in place in the housing. just to let you know that, the bulbs clips are wayy too big and will not fit inside the socket. What i have done is file some of the plastic clip away to have it fit inside the socket.
BUT.
the smarteye $150 ones are top notch. H11 uses metal clips to secure the bulb in place. It doesnt require filing. and install is a breeze.
just my 2 cents!

Smarteye is $139 not $150. Plastic base H11 only doesn't fit in some cars not all. If you need a metal style, we also can offer that with $79 kit. thanks.

fit in mine fine, just hard to turn them to lock them in. but other than that they lined up fine... must have been your sockets that didnt fit right.

does anyone have problems with thier Smart eye kit in the cold weather? My passenger side never turns on when my car is cold. The driver side is always fine. After my car warms up, I turn my lights off and on and then the passenger side comes on. If I do that right after I start my car and it is still cold in the engine bay, it still does not come on. Only after the engine bay warms up (which then warms up the ballast too)

This happens with the $79 set. It's always a hit or miss when I turn on my lights whether or not the passenger side will come on unless they've previously been on for a while.
I also noticed how much brighter the driver side is compared to the passenger. Anyways, it's been only 8-9 months since I purchased these and the passenger ballast crapped out already. Switched the driver side over to test the bulb, and it burns just as bright as the driver side. You get what you pay for.

I got the Bosch kit with Smarteye bulbs, purchased in May 2009.
I have been having problems with the passenger side too, but I did everything I can to pinpoint the problem. I had similar problems as you.
So, I finally went to the store with the whole kit, the guy tested it and the ballast blew up right in front of him. haha
that was pretty scary.
Then I got a brand new ballast. Same shit happens again 1 month later...
Found out that the fuse wires were messed up, so I got new ones. So far, it's been working fine...
The smarteye bulbs are lasting pretty well.
